Now Available: Voodoo Zobop Full Suspension

Initially unveiled at Interbike last year, Voodoo’s new 5.5″ Zobop is in stock and shipping now. The Zobop relies on Joe Murray’s FPP, or Floating Pivot Point suspension linkage which puts it in the SDL (Short Dual Link) category. Up front the Zobob receives a tapered 1.5-1.125 Zerostack headtube to keep things stiff and low, with the addition of some beefy gussets on the top and down tubes.

Considering the Zobop’s incredibly low retail of $999, this could be a steal of an upgrade for any riders looking to get into full suspension, or even those looking to upgrade their current full sussers.

Interbike 2010: Keen’s New Arroyo Pedal SPD Sandal, Updated Colors on Others

While Jack Frost is likely nipping at your toes presently, Keen’s been thinking ahead. Their new Arroyo Pedal combines a breathable hiking sandal upper with an SPD compatible outsole.

The upper is made from a washable, waterproof Nubuk leather that uses a Secure Fit lace capture system and a hydrophobic nylon lining. The metatomical EVA footbed is removable and there’s a 3/4 length SPD compatible plate to provide a bit of a platform for pedaling without being too stiff to walk casually. From the looks of it, they’re probably very similar to the fully closed Springwater Pedal shoe we reviewed last year.

Mens (top) and womens sizes are available, and they’ll retail for $110. More pics, plus updated colors for their Commuter II sandal after the jump…

Interbike 2010: PG Bikes’ $80,000 BlackTrail Electric Bike In Person

A while back, we covered Jay Leno covering the German bike manufacturer PG-Bikes newest creation: the ultra exclusive $80K BlackTrail electric bike. The BlackTrail is no ordinary e-bike though, as it is almost completely made of carbon fiber, weighs about 40 pounds (most electric bikes are extremely heavy), and is capable of speeds up to 62 MPH!

The BlackTrail is simply an exercise in what is possible, and clearly isn’t going to be seen zipping around many streets near you. Heck, at that price, I’d be surprised to see many of them actually ridden, but I’m sure a few of the 667 made will see some use.

More details after the break, plus get a glimpse of Jay Leno’s new bike after the break!

Interbike 2010: O’Neal To Be Exclusive US Distributor of Bicycle Specific Leatt DBX Neck Brace

Watch any of your favorite down hill movies and you are sure to start seeing a lot more of these: the Leatt neck Brace. Originally designed for motocross riding to prevent a number of serious trauma to the rider’s neck in a crash, it wasn’t long before Leatts started showing up around the necks of downhill riders.

However, the original Leatts as intended for MX featured much larger padding due to the increased speeds and danger of extreme MX riding which made them relatively uncomfortable and limiting for bicycle riding. While Leatt sold a replacement low profile padding kit for the original braces to make them more apt for DH riding, the new DBX marks a leap forward in mountain bike protection.

Interbike 2010: Azonic Introduces a 29er Version of the Outlaw Wheelset

When Azonic first introduced the Outlaw wheelset a few years ago, they were so instantly popular that they were almost constantly sold out. They were a very durable wheelset, that came stock with adapters to fit almost every hub and frame combination available, all at a very reasonable price.

Azonic is building on their success by slowly making them lighter, and now offering the 26 inch version in the 5 colors as shown above, but perhaps the most interesting bit is that for 2011 they will be offering the burly wheel in a 29r version!

Interbike 2010: Yakima’s New Racks

Yes, still more from Interbike if you can believe it. This installment features a few new, or redesigned racks from the famous equipment transport giant, Yakima. The first rack to get some plastic surgery (couldn’t help myself) is the very popular King Joe Strap Rack. The King Joe has remained mostly unchanged since the revisions that spurred the name change from Mighty Joe to King Joe as it is known today.

While the rack on display is still a prototype, the newest version of the rack gets a complete update on the frame changing from the round steel of the previous King to the new flat oval tube shape. The base pads now stretch across the entire rack which should distribute the pressure more evenly. The ratchet mechanism at the hub has also been revised, and the new QuickTrigger system is supposed to be even easier to use, with no question whether it’s open or closed.

The arms of the King Joe won’t go unnoticed as they come in slightly narrower than its predecessor, and feature the new Stable Cradles which won’t migrate along the arms. The King Joe will still be available in a 2 bike and 3 bike rack with an MSRP of $145 and $165 respectively.

Check out the new Super Joe, and get the details on the finally available Yakima HighLite after the break!

Interbike 2010: One Ghost’s Colorful Candy Component Line

We saw some prototypes of One Ghost’s Candy Components‘ new Flapjack flat pedals just before Interbike, and he had the final production versions on hand along with a complete, rainbow colored collection of components.

Walking around the show with a giant gun case, founder David Meredith pulled me aside to show off the goods, including their Bighead headset, top caps, seatpost binders, DH handlebars and pedals.

All parts polished and anodized for a deep long lasting finish. Five standard colors and one limited edition finish are offered:
- Green Apple
- Purple Grape
- Sweet Magenta
- Tangerine
- Cyan Blue
- Black Chrome with gold graphics (not shown, this special “Ghost” edition costs more but the extra money is donated to a charity like 88 bikes.org or the US humane society)

Interbike 2010: One Ghost’s Carbon 29er Mountain Bike, Plus a Bit of DJ/4X

We first met One Ghost Industries‘ founder David Meredith at the Ashland, OR, Super-D where he was showing off some early versions of his Candy Components line, but there was no hint that this full carbon 29er was in the works. We met up in the halls of Interbike and grabbed a few shots and details on it, the complete Candy line (which we’ll cover on a separate post) and their split-top tube DJ bike.

Here’s what David said about the OG Carbon 29er:

“Full monocoque construction with a controlled layering to get the ride quality and weight we want. BB30 so we can put an eccentric adapter on it for single speed use or 1×10 (working with E-Thirteen on a set up for that for our complete bike). The frame is designed with ‘long and low geometry’ with long top tubes and low standover and short chainstays/rear center. It has a tapered internal head tube and our own full monocoque construction carbon fork (steerer to dropout) with tapered steer tube.”

Interbike 2010: Close Up with Norco’s 2011 Range, Phaser and Carbon 29er Jubei SL Mountain Bikes

Norco sent us images and info on their 2011 lineup back in August, but Interbike gave us the chance to peek under the hood.

Starting with the carbon Jubei SL 29er, the whole lineup looks really good in person, and they’re spec’d really well, too. The Jubei SL’s frame is full high modulus carbon fiber with a tapered headtube, BB30 bottom bracket and post mount brakes.  MSRP is just $3,175 with an SLX/XT component mix, Reba fork, Ritchey cockpit and Easton EA70 wheels.

More pics of it and the Range and Phaser after the break…

Interbike 2010: Hutchinson Flat Proof Serenity Tires + More Road Tubeless

Over the years there have been a lot of tire manufacturers with claims of “worry free” flat proof riding. With tires any where from solid rubber, to foam, to Kevlar belts, it’s all been done with varying results (anyone remember Amerityre?). So what if there was a tire that couldn’t get a flat, wasn’t a pain in the ass to install, and had a standard rubber tread, are you intrigued?

Hutchinson is hoping that you are, and that their new flat proof Serenity tubeless tires will fit the bill.

Find out how they work after the break!

Interbike 2010: Return of the (Prototype) Turner RFX

High above show goers heads, lurked the next big thing from Turner: a DW link equipped RFX Prototype! While I didn’t have a chance to check out the bike out at Dirt Demo, I couldn’t help but notice the new bike perched high above Turner’s booth inside on a Thule roof rack. Turner has teased us for awhile with the possibility of the new bike, but it looks like this time it is for sure.

Scheduled to be released in Spring 2011, the all mountain, light freeride bike is sure to be a hit if past sales are any indication. The DW Link version of the RFX will boast 6.5 inches of travel, and is substantially more beefy than the 5 Spot with a stronger lower link, 1.5 head tube, and some big gussets.

Interbike 2010: Prototype Diamondback Dream Liner Slopestyle Bike

Slopestyle contests are evolving on a regular basis, and as the tricks get bigger and the terrain becomes more gnarly, companies are forced to build new school park bikes for their pros. Diamondback is no different and is showing their commitment to the DJ/FR scene with plans to eventually build and produce the Dream Liner which is a 100mm travel slopestyle frame that will also perform great in 4X events.

The Dream Liner is built around the proven Knuckle Box suspension design, and undoubtedly will have the ability to run extremely stiff suspension for huge landings. The rear suspension is matched up with an extremely capable Fox 831 with a tapered steerer and QR15. While currently only in a prototype form, I was assured that the Dream Liner will eventually be built and to be on the lookout for it in the next couple years.

Close ups after the break!
