Stolen Bicycle Alert: 14 Team TIBCO Specialized Bikes, Reynolds Wheelsets Stolen Last Night In Boise, ID – Update: Found!

team tibco specailized amira bicycles stolen before exergy tour in boise idaho

UPDATE: According to the Idaho Statesman all the bikes have been recovered. They were found locked up in three separate areas on the Boise State campus and appear to be in good condition. Police are still searching for the thieves.

PRESS RELEASE Boise, ID – On the eve of the biggest women’s international stage race in the U.S., the Team TIBCO trailer was broken into and 14 of the Team’s Specialized bicycles were stolen.

The trailer was parked in the parking lot of the Exergy Tour race hotel parking lot in Boise, Idaho. Thieves stole 6 Specialized Shiv Time Trial bikes and 8 Specialized Amira road bikes.

“These bikes are top-of-the-line race bikes, built with top-of-the-line SRAM Red components,” said Team Founder and Director Linda Jackson. “The time trial bikes specifically are very unique and should be easily identifiable. In addition, all these bikes were painstakingly built and fitted to each rider with the help of Specialized. Having this custom equipment back for the U.S. National Championships next month is also critical for every team member.“

The thieves also made off with a number of Reynolds wheelsets, including Element Disc time trial wheels and special RZR 46s and 92s. “These wheels are also very unique and are not readily available,” Jackson added.

“The theft is a huge blow to the team. On the performance side, our riders now have to compete in the most important stage race in the country without their Specialized and Reynolds time trial equipment and their custom-built road bikes,” Jackson said.“

“George’s Cycles in Boise Idaho has generously offered a $500 reward for information leading to the safe return of the bikes, we thank them for that,” Jackson added. “We will match them and make the reward $1,000.” Exergy has also added a $1,000 reward for information.

Boise Police are urging anyone who has information to call Crime Stoppers at 343-2677 or go the website www.343cops.com.

  • The League of American Bicyclists, Sierra Club and National Council of la Raza have released new data on the economic benefits of cycling.  Key data include: “US cyclists save $4.6 billion a year by cycling instead of driving. If American drivers replaced just one four-mile car trip with a bike each week for the whole year, it would save more than 2 billion gallons of gas. From 2001 to 2009, Hispanics, African Americans, and Asian Americans took up biking at faster rates than other Americans, representing 21 percent of all bike trips in the U.S. in 2009.” What does this mean for us? It means cycling is as important as driving as a transportation alternative for many reasons and must be supported! Click here to ask your member of congress to protect funding in the Transportation Bill.

Foundry Cycles Narrows Search, Vote for Your Favorite Tradesman (or Woman)

Foundry Cycles is hooking up five people with a new bike for the season, which they’ll get to use to both test it and spread the word about the brand. From their email:

“Foundry Cycles search for 5 Trades(wo)men continues. After pouring over more than 300 applications the field has been narrowed to just 15. With three people in each of 5 regions every vote counts. That’s right, Foundry is letting the cycling community choose the final 5 people who will go on to win the Foundry of their choice. Help someone win by casting your votes – 1 per region.”

Our buddy Stephen Janes over at Trips for Kids Asheville is one of the finalists. We don’t want to play favorites, but anything that helps get more kids outdoors and riding is good, and every little bit helps him further the cause. Check out all the contenders here and make your vote.
