In their continuing trend of bring more functionality to their mobile app platform, Strava has just announced an update that finally takes their ride & run Club features and puts them in the palm of your hand. Making Clubs mobile friendly means athletes can actually use the feature on the go as a way to meet other cyclists, stay inspired by each other’s activities, share routes, and probably most importantly organize, manage, and track group activities or events all from their app on your smartphone…

The new Club features are all about making it easier for Strava users to connect with each other in a more direct, local way and to help better foster a club community. The new app update for Clubs includes:

· Explore: You can search for clubs on the go based on your location, your network of other athletes, and your preferred type of activities. It also lets you easily browse through the clubs you are already a member of.
· Discussions: You can now access and participate in the discussion boards of you clubs from your phone. That means you can post comments and communicate directly with other common club members via the app.
· Notifications: Of course the addition of push notifications will actually make the Club functionality on mobile usable, so you can communicate with other members and stay informed of group ride updates or just stay in the conversation with live updates.
· Sharing: The app now also adds links to let you promote your clubs directly to you Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Strava says they already have almost 135,000 clubs worldwide, so they felt it was time to make it easier for athletes use those clubs to motivate each other face-to-face. By bringing those clubs into the real world with your phone in your hand, they hope to see the strength of Strava Clubs expand and to get more people being active together.

That’s cool but they need to fix their notifications system. It’s out of control when it comes to clubs!

There’s a lot that Strava needs to fix, but they’re in no hurry
