K-Edge sport

K-Edge has always been fiercely proud of their precision machined aluminum mounts for computers and lights. Their position has always been that their mounts are a pro level product and while plastic mounts can get the job done, they feel your $$$ Garmin or Wahoo deserves the highest level of security.

Unfortunately, that has correlated with a higher price than their competitors thanks to the amount of machining time for their flagship mounts. Now, they have another option. The new Sport series won’t be replacing their current line, now called their Pro series, but it will offer a more affordable option for those shopping on price, but who still want the strength and hold of an aluminum mount…

How do you go about making an aluminum mount that is substantially less expensive than their 1500 and 1505 mounts? You start by eliminating the ability to offer combo mounts. The Pro level mounts are built to be strong enough to support a computer on top and a light or camera on the bottom. The Sport level also does away with the hinged single bolt clamp system in favor of a two piece mount with twin bolts and a carbon safe, copolymer shim.

The Sport level mounts are computer only and will initially be sold with a Garmin “Definitive Click” locking system. While the mount itself is CNC machined aluminum, the mounts use a replaceable copolymer insert that is designed to break away in a crash, rather than the tabs breaking off your Garmin.

The Garmin Sport mount will fit 31.8mm diameter bars and is compatible with the Garmin EDGE 820, 520, 510, 500, 25 and 20. Weighing in at 42g, the mounts will be available in black for $29.99 (also £29.99 in the UK, including tax.)

Along with the new Garmin Sport mount there is also a new aero/TT mount that falls into the same Sport family. Designed to fit 22.2mm aero bar extensions, the mount is hinged at the center to allow you to position it in a range of heights to fit your desires.

Offered in both Garmin and Wahoo compatible mounts, the Garmin version will be available in three colors and the same EDGE compatible copolymer inserts. While shown in two colors, initially it looks like the Wahoo mount will just be available in black and is adjusted to fit the size of the Wahoo ELEMNT GPS unit. Both versions weigh in at 29g and will sell for $39.99.

The last new mount from K-Edge is called the Splayd. Created to fit integrated one piece bar/stem combos including the Shimano PRO Stealth, FSA Plasma, and Ritchey WCS Solostream, the sleek mount is adjustable fore/aft to align with the proper mounting position. Offered in two versions, each with two sub categories, there will be a $39.99 Race mount for the computer only, and a $54.99 Combo mount to run a computer and a camera or a light underneath. Each version will be sold to fit Garmin Edge (1000 or smaller) or Wahoo ELEMNT GPS units in black only. Weighs are claimed to be 34g for the Race or 70g for the combo.

Garmin Sport mounts will be available by September 15th, while the rest of the options will arrive in October.

For Pinarello MOST Talon the best choice is the iTalon!

I second Cracked Frame’s request. Would love a superior mount for my superior GPS unit!

raceware is a more appropriate piece IMHO. i would rather break a mount than wreck a set of carbon bars.

its funny that americans equate aluminum with quality meanwhile BMW and VWAG use plastic wherever they can get away with it.

Mounts made from plastic aren’t stiff enough to hold both a GPS and a camera (GoPro or otherwise).

Would have loved to see this designed a little bit more cleverly, so that it could be used “left sided” and “right sided”. Should be relatively easy with a few tweaks to this design

All I’m gonna say is you can buy generic aluminum mounts for under $20 if you look for them. Ideas probably stolen, but let’s not pretend it’s a manufacturing thing why these are so pricey…

Bike computers are lightweight enough that any of the name brand plastic mounts is more than sturdy enough. Camera mounts are where you really want sturdy/stable metal construction.
