VP’s new Harrier Flat Pedal gets an updated axle and bearing system called Axial Force Control (AFC). It uses a tapered axle with a DU Teflon-impregnated brass bushing on the inside of the pedal body at the tall end, capped by a machined flange to seat an o-ring into the pedal body to seal it but not allow the system to be over tightened.

At the bottom (outside end) of the axle is an Igus bushing that rests against a thrust bearing between it and the bolt. As you tighten the bolt into the end of the axle, it snugs the entire system and pulls the axle into the bushings so there’s no play.

If all that’s hard to visualize, drop past the break to see the internals…

The prior version used an external nut and T-flange Igus bearing, but the new system hides everything inside. So, it looks better and works better.

It’s a chromoly axle with forged- and heat treated 6000-series alloy body. Note the “T” flange at the top of the spindle that seats against the pedal body to prevent over tightening.

I’d prefer the axle to span the entire pedal body.

I’ve owned a few pedals with bushings, I much prefer bearings. Pedals looks great, I hope they switch to bearings in the future.

TBH, I think the Gen 1 Harriers look way better than the Gen 2 shown here.
