SoPro POV chin mount, yellow helmet

Two riders from Seattle named David and Brock decided they really didn’t like the semi-obstructed view or the ‘teletubby look’ of traditional top-of-helmet mounts for their POV cameras, so they came up with the idea to create a new mount which uniquely fixes to the chin bar of your DH lid. The pair founded SoPro Mounts, and came to Crankworx Whistler this year to show off their wares.

David says the chin mount provides a highly dynamic view by including some of the rider and bike, as well as the trail ahead. He also points out that there are no obstructions from the chin, where top-mounted cameras typically lose a little of the frame to the helmet’s visor.

The mount’s main plate is made of malleable aircraft-grade aluminum coated in neoprene, which you hand-mould to your helmet’s chin bar. David did say it can be re-mounted several times, so fitting the SoPro to multiple helmets over time shouldn’t be an issue. It connects with a simple strap and buckle setup, and comes with a J-bracket GoPro-style mount.

The SoPro mounts retail for $39.95 and are available online at SoPro’s website or on Amazon.com, and also at select retailers.

I’ve used SPMounts. Actually it weighs close to nothing. My cam doesn’t snag branches during DH. Also, it’s designed to angle up during DH riding … under the visor films visors. Never a fan of the top mount.
