2015 Scott Sports disc brake cyclocross bike with thru axles

Scott has just posted these images of the bike Marcel Wildhaber will be racing at the UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Tabor, Czech Republic, tomorrow (which you can catch via live streaming at tv.uci.ch).

It’s an all-new bike for them and, without a current ‘cross model in the lineup, puts them back in the game. From the looks of it, there’ll be thru axles front and rear, internal cable and hose routing, and a very stout front end and downtube.

Here’s hoping they keep this paint scheme as a stock offering! More pics below…

First view and first comment, cool..

Glad they are using thru axles front and rear. Interested in more details on this as this could be a good choice for long dirt road adventures as well as cross races.

Love the paint scheme. So much better then the standard matte black with red accents (or in scotts case, yellow accents)

The paint scheme is an old wartime and ever popular prototype vehicle livery called “dazzle” camouflage. It’s used as a way to prevent photographs from revealing ever important design cues. I believe it’s original purpose was to confuse radar or missile guidance systems.

Regardless, would be cool to see them keep that!

I want to hate it….but, but I can’t! Double thru, CX1, Dugast, Cra’bon Fibre’ loops and dick brakes to boot! Seriously, that is one sweet ride.

Wow. This CX bike is perfect: front and rear thru axles, disc brakes, and CX-1. Paint job is pretty nice too. Nice work Scott.

CW- Dazzle originated in the 1800’s and prevented enemy ships from determining size and speed of ships painted with dazzle. I could be wrong. The experiment didn’t work out that well, and when more sophisticated methods of detection were developed, the project was scrapped for good.

Paint never confused Radar but the this paint scheme made the outline of a battle ship hard to pick out by eye on the horizon. Hope the when looking down at the top tube does not mess with rider.

That paint is definitely polarizing, but I for one love it.

Whoever posted above that they were concerned about the bridgeless seat stays. Is that because you think it would cause a loss of stiffness? I wonder if having a thru axle in the rear would help to offset that? I have no idea…I think I recall other ‘modern’ cross bikes with the same bridgeless design and a rear thru. The top-end Giant TCX maybe? (I’m probably just talking out of my ass here).

Love how CX bikes are becoming more and more MTB-y

(deleted) The Giant TCX Advanced also sports the bridgeless seat stays with a rear thru axle. I kinda sort remember seeing a video with Adam Craig talk about that at some point saying that they could get ride of the bridge because the thru axle made up for it, and they gained mud clearance there. I have non first hand experience riding these though so whatever.

I hope they don’t make this a production color, unless they actually worked with Death Spray Custom, it’s pretty obvious where they got their “inspiration” for the paint scheme:

No worries about the lack of a brake bridge. Numerous manufacturers have acknowledged that the seatstays do very little in the strength of the frame, essentially they’re nothing more than a place to put the brake bridge. With chainstay-mounted brakes (rim or disc) you could just as easily do away with the seatstays all together, if not for the UCI double-diamond rules.
