There’s no shame in admitting it – sometimes you just need a lower gear. Technically, the new RaceFace Micro ring could be used for anything with a 64 BCD, but more than likely this will appeal to those with the fattest tires. Depending on the crankset used, and the frame it’s mounted to, using the inner position on a double crank can result in a better chainline. More importantly though, the smaller BCD allows for a tiny 24t ring that mounts with standard chainring bolts. Update: As RaceFace mentioned below, they will be offering the 64 BCD in a 26t ring as well.

To go along with that Micro ring, RaceFace is also offering a Micro bash guard. When run with the guard the Micro set brings another benefit to the table – better rock clearance. If you find yourself rock crawling on your fat bike or smashing your chainring far too often on trail obstacles, the smaller ring should give you some much needed clearance. While you will lose out on the high range, the smaller ring should also allow the use of a standard 11-36t cassette for plenty of low gearing without resorting to a cassette adapter.

Whatever your set up, more options are always better. RaceFace is offering this 24t option for $59.99 as a set for the ring and the bash guard. Both are available now.

I just ordered pretty much the same thing from Absolute Black for my fat bike. But, it was more expensive, had no bashguard, and wasn’t Canadian. Oh well….

26 would be better.

Maybe it’s a emergency gear… you can run a 2×11 with two narrow-wide chainrings and no FD. you use the big one 99% of the time, and keep this 24 just in case.

@Tony: here is an idea. You can also hook a shifter up, and make switching to “emergency gear” with just a push of a small lever. You can mount it opposite your rear derailleur shifter.

We can call it “front” derailleur. It is just maybe half a pound of weight over- but you can use a smaller rear cassette, and it should be really convenient, and has an added benefit of better chain retention.

Narrow wide chain rings are not compatible with manual shifting setups. The point in having a narrow wide chainring is so that your chain does not come off of the chainring easily. Therefore, you would not be able to shift off of one chain ring and on to another. And on top of that fact, narrow wide chainring do not have rivets on them to catch a chain and the teeth will not allow the train to easily go over and fall into place. Tony knows what he’s talking about. And now you know. You’re welcome.

“…the smaller ring should also allow the use of a standard 11-36t cassette for plenty of low gearing without resorting to a cassette adapter.”

No, stay with the 10-42 because “sometimes you just need a lower gear.” “There’s no shame in admitting it…”

It’s great to see a company think in these terms. There’s a real application for NW rings less than 28T; Race Face gets it.

Direct mount option?

58 mm BCD planned? That’ll let you get down to 20T.

At this point, you want a steel ring, not aluminum.

@Mindless: Yeah, I would agree with you there. I would just go with a 2×10 setup and be done with it.

on another note, with the torque you can produce with a 24t I think you can kiss your formula hub good bye.

Thanks for the positive feedback! We will be making a 26t version available in the near future as well. Our Direct mount N/W rings go down to a 26t – no current plans for a 24t DM ring.

Well it’s 2018 and this ring is still not available. 24 or 26 tooth. How many knees have been blown out I wonder. The MTB industry is killing off it’s customers, or just prepping up to embrace $14,000.00 E-Bikes when they look exactly like regular bikes?
