I have one friend in particular that I know will be excited about this one. That is, anyone who really loves orange and wants to expand the range of their cassette can satisfy both needs with the new Orange GC42. Called copper orange, the GC42 joins black, silver, red, and blue as options for the giant aluminum cogs which all sell for $89.95.

We got a sneak peek at Wolf Tooth’s new OO (Only One) cogs at Interbike but at that point only the steel single speed cogs were available. Now, WTC is unveiling their aluminum OO cogs which promise to be some of the lightest on the market….

Machined from 7075-T6 aluminum, the cogs should include a good balance of durability to weight. While aluminum single speed cogs may not seem like the most durable option in the world, we’ve been extremely happy with our Endless Bikes Kick Ass Cogs, all of which are also machined from 7075-T6 aluminum.

Now, WTC is jumping into the aluminum SS cog market with small run of just 20 and 22t cogs. Like most WTC products, if the demand is there, their options will expand. Featuring a 4.5mm wide base, the cogs are designed to play nice with soft freehub bodies and will work with 8, 9, and 10 speed chains that are 3/32 or narrower. Made in the U.S., claimed weights are listed at 22g for the 22t, and 19g for the 20t, which is about half the weight of the stainless OO cogs. 20 and 22t cogs are shipping now for $39.95.

At least it’s better pricing than King. The amount of money they want for their single speed cogs is criminal.

The king cogs are pricy because they are sexy and will outlast any aluminum cog.

Aluminium does not belong on cogs.

AAROWN, with a 40 or 42t cog you’re gonna go through many cassettes with still being able to keep this cog. I bet 15,000-20,000 miles of riding since you’ll only be in your 42t for a fraction of that time.
Speaking of the smaller cogs…they’re cheap enough so who cares? You’re wearing out one cog and replacing one cog. Its pretty easy to get sick of a skipping cassette full of 10 gears and only 2-3 worn cogs causing the problem.
