Wethepeople from Germany builds a full range of BMX bikes, and their Curse 20 is a 20″ starter bike, decked out in great parts for a great deal. Taking cues from its 18″ wheeled little brother, it packs a great value.

The Curse 20 is a great entry-level bike with top-level features just like its little brother the Curse 18. At $399.99, it has a full-featured frame with spanish BB, integrated headset and removable gyro tabs, and the complete bike has chromoly 3 piece cranks with 26t sprocket. There are three new colors for 2015 with nicely done matching pedals, tires and grips.

Nice! I race road bikes but have been dying to get a Staats cruiser and do some cross training at the local bmx track. They have a dads race with some guys I actually raced as a kid! And they were damn good.

There are some really nice BMX bikes at excellent value from Verde, United, WTP but dealers still try to stock Haro, Redline, etc. Sad that a website has taken the bulk of BMX sales away from dealers and the kids in neighborhoods who need to hang out at a shop and learn about cycling. I rode BMX for 10 years and now I make a living from riding a dirt jump bike. Everyone needs to start on BMX when they’re young!

@DirtyJump26, word. I started biking seriously in my early 20s, but as a mountain biker. At the same time I watched many friends entering the bike scene through BMX. Some of them switched yo MTB, and the skills they got from BMX are hard to add to your quiver once your ways are set. They literally run circles around me, and I consider myself a decently skilled mountain biker…

Some of the top crit racers in the country, like the Keough brothers are ex bmx racers. When I was racing as a kid my neighbors were state champs and a few of us had am sponsor GHP. It was a crazy time we had a camper and toured all the races every weekend. This was 1979-1984 or so. It was just as epic as you can imagine and no stage in my cycling career since then has been as exciting. Racing was like so packed it was crazy, sort of like xgames or something is today. Plus we all rode ramps and freestyle as well as raced. Most ramps were 4 feet wide lol.

My kid’s “fun bike” is a wethepeople 16″ Seed – rides well and is pretty equipped as is the Curse. Good company.

@Rico – you should do it! I moved back to racing BMX after an almost 30 year layoff to race with said kid (on a lighter mini than his Seed, though!). There are a few guys who race cruiser in my class who are primarily road and TT racers – they say that BMX racing makes excellent cross training for them! Tracks nowadays tend to be pretty fast with paved berms and rollable jumps as well.
