Forget Mario Party, the hot new game is all about cycling. That’s what newly formed board game publishing company Snake Eyes Games is hoping at least. Formed by long time friends and board game enthusiasts Leandro Pérez and Diego Hernando, their first product Cycling Party aims to take the strategy, excitement, and head to head racing of professional cycling and package it into a new board game.

Combining traditional board game play with a companion app, the addition of the electronic aid was key in making the game easier to play without needing to spend hours with a calculator. Shipping with 54 hexagon landscape board pieces, the track can be laid out in multiple ways to get to the finish hexagon from the start. Racing involves the use of 40 different counter/cyclists including different pieces for the overall leader, best climber, intermediate sprints leader, and the points classification leader. To win you have to pay attention to race strategy, keep your leader safe, even remember to eat and drink.

Like most small niche products these days, Snake Eyes has decided to launch Cycling Party through a Kickstarter which met their funding goal after 48 hours. At this rate it looks like they will reach all of their stretch goals to make the game even better. Even though the early bird offers are all gone, you can still pick up a first edition of the game for $50. Estimated to ship by December 2014, it might even make it in time for Christmas for your favorite cyclist.

From Snake Eyes:

CYCLING PARTY is a board game that brings together the excitement of road cycling as a sport and the enjoyment of strategy games. Direct and manage your own cycling team. Choose your race strategy, and look for the best opportunities by taking advantage of the situations that occur during the race.

CYCLING PARTY has 3 levels of play: junior, senior and master according to the skill and experience of participants.

  • Junior level: play a game at the junior level and learn the basic situations of the race: pelotons, pacelines, breakaways and climbing mountain passes and try to win the stage with your sprinter. Besides, you can learn to play with a app available in http://www.bihartech.com/en/cycling_party/
  • Senior level:  you will have to manage the different kinds of riders: Climbers, rouleurs, domestiques… and with new rules:  Attack, falls, fall-backs, descending at full speed…
  • Master version: is the most complete and attractive version of the game. Create a stage race with the help of the game software and play an absorbing game with a multitude of prizes and variations: stage awards, the general category, climber, regularity, for teams… to play with your favourite riders by simulating the routes of the best stage races.

Excitement and thrills guaranteed!

Folks, here we might have some interesting thing to do durong the winter. I just skimmed through the rules and it seems that they really managed to bring pro-peloton strategies to a board game. Well worth my Xmas pocket money!

We might have something interesting for those long Sundays in winter season. I just skimmed through the rules and it seems that they managed to bring peloton strategies to a board game. I miss UCI licensed though, well I guess I will have to ‘tune’ my own legends squad. Well worth my Xmas money!
