Detroit Bikes B-Type Step Through Bike (2)

Last year we featured a story about a small company called Detroit Bikes, who was manufacturing affordable commuter bikes in the United States. Available only in one size and color to keep prices affordable, the completes came equipped with a nexus 3 speed hub, front brake, rear coaster brake, and rack.

The total price for the package was $699, which included a Tig Welded 4130 frame made from US Steel. And a custom rack, chain protector, and wheels, which are all built in house.

To better accommodate smaller riders, Detroit Bikes is now expanding their product line to include a step through frame called the B-Type.

This new step through bike shares the same components and geometry as the A-type, but has a short seat tube.

While the A-type is only available in black, the B-Type will have be powder coated white and finished with black components.

The rear rack is rated for up to 35 lbs

The company is currently manufacturing some 30 completes a week, but has the capacity to ramp up production as it’s distribution network expands.

The bike looks great and I like how everything is made in house, but the rear rack is terrible.

“Detroit Bikes is not expanding their product line”

They aren’t? It kinda sounds like they are.
