Speedplay Ships Brass Knuckles, Colorful Flats That Will Take a Beating
A bit delayed from their promised after Interbike 2013, Speedplay is now shipping their newest flat pedals – the Brass Knuckles. There are a number of flat pedals on the market, but Speedplay is staking their claim in building what they consider the strongest, most durable pedal while maintaining a light overall weight. Designed with input from five time National Trials Champion Jeremy VanSchoonhoven, the Brass Knuckles are built with a full length spindle and a full compliment of needle and cartridge bearings.
Created with a “Brass Knuckle” themed CNC machined body, the pedals carry 20 replaceable star pattern traction pins that are easily replaceable after hard use. The 13.5mm thick body has just enough room for the 12mm spindle which rolls on 2 cartridge and 1 needle bearing per pedal with dual seals. Like the rest of the Speedplay line, Brass Knuckles can be serviced by simply pushing grease through the port in the axle. Offered with a chromoly or titanium spindle, pedal weights come in at 335g, or 395g respectively.
Shipping now, Brass knuckles run $160 for the Chromoly pedals in red, gold, and black ano, while the hand polished model adds $15 at $175. Ti spindle pedals retail for $335 for standard colors, and $350 for the polished Knuckles.
