SOC14: Lightweight Osprey Rev Series Now shipping
We first got a look at the new Rev series of packs from Osprey at Interbike last year, and true to their word the lightweight packs are now shipping. Initially designed as more of a runners pack, it was discovered that cyclists like the lightweight construction and close fit so a few design changes were made to make it more of a universal application.
One of the biggest changes that had to be made was the switch from their standard Hydraulics reservoir which uses a stiff back panel. To make the bags more form fitting the hard backing was removed and the new Hydraulics LT was created. The LT still has a large fill cap and a quick disconnect hose, but the bladder uses internal baffles to keep it from “sausaging” on your back. Also, the quick disconnect has been moved to the top of the bladder which should make installation a bit simpler.
Hydraulics LT bladders are available in 1.5 and 2.5L versions, and are sold separately for $27 and $32.
In addition to the collapsing bottle sleeve on the right shoulder strap, the Rev series also features a handy cell phone or map pocket. When not in use it snaps to the strap to keep it out of the way, and then can be unsnapped to grab a quick glance at the map or your phone. For size comparisons, that is an iPhone 4s in a Mophie battery case which was a tight fit, but it worked. The removable DigiFlip pocket is very easy to use, and one of those things we’re surprised we haven’t seen before.
Rev packs are offered in the Solo fanny pack, and 1.5, 6, 12, 18, and 24L packs that are all available now.
