SOC 14: First Look – FSA Teases All New Carbon MTB Prototype Wheels

Just as their surprisingly good mountain bike brakes are beginning to ship, FSA is already showing their hand at their next project – wheels. Mountain bike wheels specifically, that will borrow from what Vision has learned with their Metron carbon wheel line for the road. Details were slim, but we do know that there will be K-Force Light, SLK, and Afterburner versions in “many axle and wheel size configurations.”

We got a sneak peek at the K-Force Light prototypes after the jump…

The K-Force Light uses a carbon rim with this wheel using 24 spokes on the front and rear.

Wheels will definitely be tubeless with an FSA devised tubeless system. Considering the K-force Light is designed for XC racing and riding, the rim looked plenty wide – we couldn’t get any numbers from FSA just yet. SLK wheels will bee for XC riding and light trail riding, while Afterburner wheels are designed for trail use, similar to their disc brakes.

Hubs are a straight pull design, with bladed spokes. Each hub had a locking axle adjuster, but that doesn’t mean it will make it through to production. Look for these wheels to be released around Eurobike.

Come on wheel companies… build more carbon competition! Maybe by next year an affordable set can be had for under 600 bucks!
