  1. Ha! That’s great, Canucklehead. I’m pretty good at PS, but don’t think I could pull that off. Usually you wouldn’t see the post at all, because I’d drop it, but this was just a day trip and didn’t want to bother with that.

Anyways, Here’s an overnight trip report where I used the technique: http://greenecasey.blogspot.com/2012/05/bass-pass.html

For the pack, I use ether a Osprey Variant 52 or 37. The key feature to these packs which lets me attach my bike, is the buckle-based ice axe loops. Put the top-tube in one and the downtube in the other and the bike is pretty well anchored. From that point, just a couple more straps for the wheels and seattube and I’m off.

I’ve been saying this for 6 months now, but I need to find some time to make a video showing the technique. Hopefully, I’ll get to it soon… 😉

  2. Ya, buckle-based. Most of the weight of the bike will be sitting on them, and you want to get it as anchored as possible so the load isn’t shifting like crazy.

Cross bike would be sweet, and probably work better, since the wheels/tires will have less bulk.
