2013 Tour de France Route Announced – 100th Edition Gets Double Alpe d’Huez Ascent!

2013 Tour de France schedule and course map details

The 2013 Tour de France race route has been announced. The course has seven flat stages, five hilly ones and five mountain stages, four of which end with summit top finishes. The highlight of those will be a double ascent of the Alpe D’Huez in Stage 18, concluding with a mountain top finish. The other summit finishes are Ax 3 Domaines, Ventoux and Annecy-Semnoz in the penultimate stage.

Ten cities will be first-time hosts, and after the Stage 1 departure, the race will stay entirely within France’s borders. One interesting point is there will be no time bonuses for intermediate sprint or climbing checkpoints, only the actual stage finish time will apply.

Total purse is €2 million, with €450,000 going to the overall winner.

I was hoping for an Alpe d’Huez downhill TT.

“after the Stage 1 departure, the race will stay entirely within France’s borders”

The first three stages are in Monaco.

Mapmaster - 10/25/12 - 3:36pm

Chris – FYI First three stages are in Corsica. Corsica is a French island, actually a region of France.

… once again proving the geographical ignorance of folks from the United States. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corsica

Revisionist history racing at its finest! Can’t wait to see who re-wins ten years from now!

notapro - 10/25/12 - 4:43pm

why does that promo poster remind me of the star wars saga?

Tommy Nickels - 10/25/12 - 6:08pm

I totally see the Star Wars thing. Not even subtle.
Helmeted guy used to be Darth Vader. There is a even guy front and center that resembles Luke.

The group is in a formation from a New Hope poster. The Darth Vader negative is from Return of the Jedi.
Cannot help but feel that’s a hidden message.

Assuming after the wreckage of the past few weeks that there is a Tour….

Cadel will win.

DH - 10/26/12 - 7:57am

I can’t wait to play Spot the Doper.

Psi Squared - 10/26/12 - 8:58am

Four summit finishes, and one day they ascend Alpe d’Huez twice? Sounds good. Hopefully it wont’ be as, uhm, unexciting as this past year’s version.

When I win the lottery, I’m going to buy Corsica.

JW - 10/26/12 - 5:53pm

THAT POSTER ! What does the new route have to do with a well proportioned attractive woman smiling and playing with her hair??? Is this poster for real?

If it’s supposed to reference Star Wars, then shouldn’t the helmet wearer be Lance ? ;)
