Kona Releases New Hei Hei Supreme XC 29er for 2013, Switch from Scandium to Carbon

Kona 2013 29er Hei Hei Supreme

We got the chance to try out Kona’s 2012 29er line and we’re big fans of the bikes, the Hei Hei Supreme in particular.

For 2013 they’re changing things up. Hei Hei Supreme gets upgraded from scandium 6069 to a carbon construction. Aside from a switch of material, Kona altered the rear triangle to stiffen the bike, shrinking from 18″ to a fairly short 17.5″ (445mm) chainstay, and made slight changes in fit and components. The groupset is complete SRAM XO with Avid rotors. The handlebar, stem and seatpost are Raceface Turbine. A Fox Float 100mm adjust fit fork is linked to tubeless ready Easton EA90 XC wheels spaced 142x12mm on the rear hub. BB size has changed too, from 73mm to press fit 92mm.

MSRP is $5499 in 5 sizes: 15, 17, 18, 19 and 21 inches. Click ‘more’ for full specs…

Does anyone know if they are still going to keep the Magic Link bikes in their line?

Bendik - 08/08/12 - 5:21pm

The Kadabras will still be in the lineup. Ig You go to their website alle the 2013s are online.

Gillis - 08/08/12 - 6:49pm

John, they still have the Cadabra’s but the Coilair & 2×2 are gone. The Link’s magic may be running out.

They shortened the rear end! Holy cow! Will this new carbon rear end retro-fit onto 2012 and prior alloy frames and be available through warranty to those unfortunate folks who purchased a prior version of this bike?

Any idea what the approximate weight will be?
