Javelin Launches 691g Bolzano Road Bike Frame, Could Go Lighter

Javelin Bolzano ultra lightweight custom carbon fiber road bike under 700g frame weight

In business since 1992, Javelin is a US company based in Chicago but all carbon frames are handmade in Italy using tube to tube construction. They offer stock and full custom sizes.

The Bolzano (a city in the Dolomites) is their new super light climbing bike. The size 50 frame came in at 691g, and they said they could make a safely rideable frame 50g lighter for the right customer. Frame can run mechanical or Di2, the latter getting smaller holes and plugs and the battery mount built in.

Javelin has their carbon frames made by Sarto in Italy, which has been making frames for 35 years, and have had several big names win some big races on board their frames. They also offer models built with the carbon/kevlar honeycomb frames we saw from others at NAHBS this year.

so is the bolzano pictured a 50cm or 55 cm? there seems to be a discrepancy in the article

@ Trip, it appears they weighed a size 55cm complete bike and a size 50cm bare frame. It looks like a nice bike, but I would thunk the complete bike, with Lightweights and those other components, would be lighter than 13lbs.

@ Evan –
I agree w/ your weight comments. I have a pretty simple build on my 2011 s-works SL3 w/ pedals, reynolds clichers, two Tune cages AND Cateye Strada, frame size 56 and mine hits the scales @ 12.93 & 12.97 lbs on two different LBS scales.

Trip – the frame only is a 50, the complete bike is a 55.

I was able to ride a Bolzano in Park City last week and I have to say I was also skeptical because of the weight, and my weight (190). My daily rider is a Cannondale Super Six EVO, just for reference. The Bolzano is a incredibly responsive ride, accelerated fast (as you would imagine). The bike was smooth and balanced in the descents and I was confident enough to get it up to 50-60mph. Felt solid in the short sprint I did too. Overall great ride quality, super-light, and all-round clean looking bike. It would be sweet to have one built custom, with BB30 and integrated seatmast.
