New Split Aero Helmet from Scott Sports
Scott Sports, as part of their sponsorship of Team GreenEDGE, has just unveiled their new Split aero helmet.
The Split is designed to have minimal drag while providing comfort in the way of proper air flow inside and a high degree of adjustability. The strap above gives away some of how they did it, offering a dial-operated retention mech and wrap around frame. What’s not quite so obvious is how they worked ventilation into the equation with zero holes in the helmet…
To maximize aerodynamics, they created matching clip-on goggles that cover the top edge of the face.
At the top of the goggles are four vents, which is how air gets into the helmet. From there, channels move it across the top of your head and out the back. Video here.
MSRP will be $210 without optics, $299 with. Non-team color options won’t be introduced until July, and availability is pegged at spring 2013. How’s that for advance notice?!?

Queue comments about how it looks like a Giro Selector and suggestions that a lawsuit be filed based upon that. Looks nice and should be better in real world conditions for GreenEDGE than Scott’s other TT helmet.
Like I said on Velonews – $90 for a lens? Those lenses better be crafted by the undead Carl Zeiss, himself.
I’ve been told the $90 upcharge includes 3 lens…if that’s the case, then it seems reasonable.
