Gallery: 2012 Pinarello Road, Commuter and Time Trial Bikes

2012 Pinarello Dogma carbon fiber road bike

For 2012, Pinarello revamped a number of their high end bikes to be Di2 compatible with internal wiring and, in some cases, hidden battery compartments. They’ve got a full range of road, commuter and time trial bikes on hand.

Above is the top-tier Dogma with its asymmetric frame and internal brake routing, too. This is likely the bike that Mark Cavendish is gonna have to get used too pretty soon…

UPDATE: Their Graal TT bike added at bottom of post.

Philly Bike Expo This Weekend – Big Events List, Parties and Rides

2011 philly bike expo and bicycle party and events in philadelphia

For a second year event, the Philly Bike Expo has put together an impressive list of seminars, events, rides and parties. If you’re in the area or want to break away to the city of brotherly love and over aggressive parking enforcement with a worthless appeals process (feels good to vent, sorry Bina), here are some of the highlights:

  • Bicycle Fashion Showcase is sponsored by Road Holland and produced by students and faculty of Philadelphia University’s Fashion Merchandising Department.
  • Philadelphia food trucks serving up a wide range of taste sensations.
  • Bike Valet service will be provided by Neighborhood Bike Works.
  • Stroll the Concours d’Elegance for seminars by the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia.
  • Anne Lutz Fernandez, contributor to Streetsblog, and author of Carjacked will talk about “Riding in America’s Car Culture”.
  • Ruchama Bilenky, (a certified yoga instructor and certified yoga therapist) will offer a class in “Yoga for Cyclists”.
  • The “Philly’s Fastest Mechanic” contest will crown the technician who can assemble a complete bicycle in the shortest amount of time.
  • Saturday afternoon ZombieCat alleycat race with a last-weekend-in-October theme
  • Saturday night costume party at Keswick Cycle’s new University City location.
  • Rapha Gentleman’s ride on Sunday morning and a Swap Meet hosted by NY Bike Jumble.

Other seminars and workshops include “Frame Materials Technology” presented by Wade Barocsi of Cycle Design, “Mountain Bike Design” presented by Drew Guldalian of Engin Cycles and “Eating on Two Wheels” presented by Tim Schlitzer maker of Try Chips. Mel Kornbluh’s popular “Tandem 101 Tandem Fit” will return for the second year, too.

If you’re local to Philadelphia, check out this greenway project and get vocal. (Thanks for the tip, Kurt!)

Inspired Skye Danny MacAskill Signature Trials Bike Now Available

Danny Macaskill signature edition Inspired Skye trials mountain bike

FROM THE PRESS RELEASE: Named in honor of the small Scottish island where Danny grew up, the Skye complete bike and frame kit have been developed to meet the specific demands of a new generation of progressive street and trials riders. The geometry of the Skye bike has been refined by continual testing and feedback from Danny as well as using the knowledge and experience gained from producing the World’s leading street bikes. As a result the Skye offers a lively and responsive ride, which is perfect for the advanced tricks and creative lines that riders are pushing to get dialed.

Tested by Danny over a period of more than 18 intense months, the lengths to which this frame and fork have been used (and abused) is clearly illustrated in the impressive selection of videos that it has appeared in throughout the past couple of years (here, here and here). After successfully coping with the relentless punishment of our Scottish test machine, the final specification and feature detailing have resulted in one of, if not the toughest street framesets available. The design ensures that every element of the frame is more than capable of dealing with the repeated, high impact stresses of modern street riding.

GU Makes Peanut Butter Flavor Official, Adds Peppermint Stick Holiday Edition

GU peanut butter flavor energy gel and limited edition peppermint stick holiday flavor multipacks make perfect stocking stuffers for cyclists triathletes and sports

I reviewed GU’s surprisingly good peanut butter flavor here, and now they’ve gone and added it to their official SKU count. Should go well with Black Raspberry or Chocolate! They also have a new limited edition holiday Peppermint Stick flavor. Full PR follows. Sadly, they didn’t keep the Andre the Giant imagery on the PNB flavor…

PRESS RELEASE: GU Energy Labs, creators of the original sports energy gel, is proud to announce the release of two dynamic gel flavors: Peanut Butter and Peppermint Stick.

Peanut Butter GU, made with natural crushed peanuts, offers athletes a savory alternative to the vastly sweet dominated gel landscape, while Peppermint Stick GU provides a crisp zing of minty-fresh fuel. Both new flavors of GU contain GU’s proprietary Amino Blend (Leucine, Valine, Histidine, Isoleucine) as well as Potassium, Vitamin C and Vitamin E and a touch of Herbal Blend (Chamomile and Ginger).

They’ve also added WiFi for wireless streaming either to their WiFi BacPac, their new WiFi remote or live image and video streaming directly to the web!

Shaving Product Shootout!

To an outside observer, there’s not a lot that is manly about shaving your legs. Someone, like say my wife, might tease a guy for shaving his legs. So if that were the case, you can bet that I’m generally not super excited to jump in the shower and use her purple flower encrusted shaving gel can. So a guy, maybe me, might go looking for a manly alternative. Apparently there’s a market for it, because more companies have been stepping up with shaving creams, gels and oils targeted to athletes, with phrases like, “for men AND women” printed right on the label. I’m going to compare and contrast four of the top choices; Brave Soldier Shower Shave, DZ Nuts Bald, Sportique Shaving Oil and Leg Lube. Check it out after the jump…

Mini Review: Arundel Mandible Bottle Cages

There are good bottle cages and there are bad bottle cages. If your response to that is, “A bottle cage is a bottle cage,” then consider yourself lucky to have always had good bottle cages. If you read it and say, “Amen, brother,” then you need to keep reading and prepare to crack open your wallet (although not as far as you probably think).

I’d been rocking the PRO fiberglass cages that a buddy gave me when I first built up the bike. They were light and the somewhat unique shape made for an extremely good grip on the bottle, but I found that also translated into difficultly with removing and replacing the bottle and after a mildly groggy morning mishap putting a bottle back, I knew they had to go.

Enter the Arundel Mandible. Check it out after the jump…

Found! Blue steel Ashima rotor bolts

When my workshop was broken into this spring, the thieving theivers decided to take (among other things) a mint tin full of rotor bolts.  Why?  I can’t say- but it’s been awfully hard to put rotors on wheels without any.  Looking to replace them on a well-known auction site, I stumbled across Ashima’s blue steel rotor bolts.  Click through for more details…
