2012 Bontrager RXL virtual foil carbon fiber kamm tail aerobars and brake levers

PRESS RELEASE: Bontrager today unveiled a collection of innovative aftermarket upgrades to its wheel, handlebar, and brake lever triathlon lines at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. The new products are the result of lengthy testing with the highly successful Trek/K·Swiss triathlon team and allow triathletes of any ability level to improve their bike split with unparalleled componentry, regardless of what bike they’re riding.

Bontrager’s latest upgrades closely follow the launch of the brand’s revolutionary Aeolus D3 aero-wheel line. Available in ten colorways, the 90mm-deep Aeolus 9 D3 tubular is the tallest profile option in the wheel line, and the weapon of choice for elite triathletes. Its advanced rim profile and wider cross section allow the Aeolus 9 D3 to create less drag than deeper rim profiles, making it not only a faster choice, but because it has a shorter profile, also a lighter choice.

The Aeolus 9 D3 tubular is quite simply the fastest non-disc wheel on the planet.

The Bontrager RXL Kammtail Virtual Foil aerobar, based on the development completed with Trek on the integrated bar previously exclusive to the Speed Concept, is now available to triathletes of all bike preferences. The new aftermarket handlebar features a 31.8mm clamp for compatibility with standard stems and an aero profile that meets UCI regulations. With a huge range of adjustability, the Bontrager RXL Kammtail Virtual Foil aerobar is an upgrade in fit as well as speed.

“One of the features people love most about the Speed Concept, aside from the ride, is the range and ease of adjustability everything on the bike has. We wanted to bring that ability to dial in any bike to everybody,” said Bontrager Brand Manager Chris Clinton.

Accompanying the new bar, the Bontrager XXX Aero brake lever adds a never-before-seen level of adjustability to accompany the growing trend toward wider aero rim profiles. The lever incorporates tool-free brake pad adjustment to accommodate everything from traditional narrow rims to the new wide-profile Bontrager Aeolus D3 aero rims, all at the turn of a dial. Easily-accessible lever reach adjustment makes the XXX aero brake lever a perfect fit for any bike and any rider.

By ‘Tool free brake pad adjust’ they mean a barrel adjuster…

Bontrager / Trek didn’t warrranty my friend’s TT bars after they failed under normal use. I also know a few people that had to pay a fee for high end carbon Trek frames that failed… worst company in the bike industry for warranty.

On the new Trek SpeedConcept bikes, the brakes are inside the frame and are center pull with no barrel adjuster. These brake levers now let you adjust without having to open up the brake panels. This is huge for me since i train on regular rims (19mm), then race on 25mm wide HED wheels. going back and forth is a pain. no longer.

I’ve had 2 high-end trek frames that have show minor cracking and Trek has no questions asked replaced each time… and even upgraded me to a carbon steering tube no cost.

but that’s just my experience…
