Interbike 2011: Uvex add lightness with new eyewear and helmets

OK, so the helmet was spotted as far back as Press Camp, but it was good to finally get our hands on Uvex’s startlingly light (225g in small) Ultrasonic helmet at Interbike last week.  But what had to be our favorite item at US distributors Magura USA’s booth was the company’s SGL 202 glasses.  Featuring novel visible light sensitive (rather than UV sensitive) Variomatic lenses that run from 77% – 17% transmission, the SGL 202s are also remarkably flexible and very comfortable.  Click though for lots of detail on both!

The Ultrasonic is available with or without the pictured visor in matte finishes for $169  and $149, or with the visor in glossy finishes for $139.  The visor is a bit stubby, but should stay out of the way, and the hydrophilic pads look to be a big improvement over older Uvex models.  Made in Germany, the Ultrasonic has the standard Uvex bug netting, a redesigned lie-flat Y-buckle, and comes in three sizes.

The Eurobike Award-winning SGL 202′s arms bend every which way and are visibly ventilated.  Distinctive without being obnoxious, the arms are designed to be comfortable and breathable.  The adjustable nose piece made for a good fit on my lumpy nose, too.  The lenses are coated in a oleophobic material that allowed my Sharpie to wipe off easily- not that you color your glasses, but it should help to keep the lenses clean and clear.  There are six color/lens combinations available for $159.  We’re itching to get both on test…

I have been using the glasses for about 5 days now. They are WOW! Light, change shade quickly, work great IN the car. Water and sweat just roll off. And they have yet to fog, even on some really early morning commutes and mtn rides.
