Exclusive Sneak Peak: 2012 Cyclepassion To Be Debuted At Eurobike

It’s that time of year, the 2012 Cyclepassion calendar is about to be unveiled at Eurobike. Whether you love it, or hate it, the 2012 edition features even more beautifully shot photographs of the top women of the sport. New to the calendar this year, is the option to view the calendar one of two ways: either the full color traditional Cyclepassion photo, or a black and white action photo of each lady tearing it up on the bike.

The Cyclepassion Calendar is a large 16×27″ format, which will retail for $50 and be available in the US this year through Fair Wheel Bikes.

Check out a few sneak peeks along with the full calendar line up, after the break!

2012 Rockshox Monarch XX with XLoc Remote Gets Official

2012 Rockshox Monarch XX rear shock with XLoc hydraulic remote lockout for full suspension mountain bikes

Leaked just yesterday, the 2012 Rockshox Monarch XX carbon-bodied rear shock is now official. It’ll come with their XLoc hydraulic remote lockout, which mounts to the shock behind the rebound lever on a bezel that lets it rotate 360º. Unlike a mechanically operated (ie. cable) lockout that requires a fixed piece to pull against, this lets the hose move with the suspension if necessary and should make installation much easier and cleaner.

Click through for full specs, pricing, weights and the answer to your most burning question: whether or not there’s a dual XLoc lever coming…

2012 Stevens Bicycles – Disc Brake Cyclocross, 29ers & Their Lightest Road Bike Ever

2012 Stevens Bicycles prototype carbon disc brake cyclocross bike

Stevens Bicycles new-for-2012 items that’ll actually be hitting showroom floors are all pictured after the break, and there’s some good stuff. But, as usual, I was smitten at first with anything labeled Prototype. Their carbon cyclocross bike with disc brakes has been popping up more and more lately, usually bedazzled with the TRP Parabox, but at Eurobike they tamed it down a bit with Avid mechanicals and had it very, very production-ready looking…I’d say it’ll be a mid-2012 launch at latest.

Click on through for a couple more pics of this so it’s outta my system, then we’re on to the real bikes, including their “Lightest Road Bike Ever!”…

Phil Wood – New BMX Annihilator 2 Hubs, Alloy Five Pawl Freehub Body & Lightweight Cranks

2012 Phil Wood Annihilator 2 BMX hubs

Phil Wood had a few new goodies to show at Eurobike. Above are the new Annihilator 2 BMX hubs.  The new A2′s will retail for $179 front and $207  rear. They use larger size bearings with oversize axles. Essentially, it’s a beefed up design of their original Annihilator. Available now.

Not pictured is a collaboration with White Industries on a stainless steel belt drive hub. WI makes the adapter and Phil makes the cog out of stainless steel because no special coating is required to improve durability versus an alloy cog, but it was a bit heavy. Looked fantastic, though.

SRAM Powers Up Quarq Power Meter Mountain Bike Crankset

Borrowing a page from the asphalt, SRAM has just debuted the Quarc Quatro power meter crankset for mountain bikes. It’ll use the same basic interface between the crank arm and chainrings to measure how many horses you’re laying down.

The Quatro uses the lightweight X0-level carbon fiber crankarms and gets a user replaceable battery that’s good for a reported 400+ hours of ride time per CR2450 battery. It communicates via ANT+, making it compatible with Garmin, etc, and Training Peaks software among others.

There arenGXP and BB30 options, and the system mirrors the road setup’s +/-2% accuracy.

Weight is 814g with GXP bottom bracket, BB30 will be lighter. It uses their X-Glide chainrings and will have only 2×10 chainring options in 42/28 and 39/26 options. Available in October, pricing TBD.

Ibis Unveils New Ripley Full Suspension 29′er

As the result of a project that was started back in 2008, Ibis has finally unveiled their newest bike: the 120mm travel full suspension Ripley. Rather than just stuff 29 inch wheels into a stretched out Mojo SLR frame, Ibis reached out to suspension guru Dave Weagle to create a platform that would do the big wheels justice. The result? A surprising remake of the famed DW Link suspension where the two short links have been replaced by 2 small eccentrics.

With a new look, and a boat load of features, Ibis’ 29′er looks like it could be worth the wait.

DT Swiss Debuts New Freeride, 29er and Road Wheels, Plus Carbon-Ceramic Hubs

DT Swiss rolled put several new wheels and hubs for road and mountain.

The RRC road wheel line gets new Dicut hubs with sharp machined edges at the spoke bed. The changes are more than cosmetic, though. They use entirely new nail head spokes that rest inside the flange and keep the aero spoke profile facing straight forward. An alloy cap threads on to cover them, and the bearing sit just inboard of them, making it easy to replace a spoke. The rear hub has a taller driveside flange and flanges were moved a couple millimeters out to give it a wider platform for a laterally stiffer wheel. They’re available in 32,46 and 66mm depths in tubular and clincher. The rim is a new carbon to prevent any past delamination issues. The new carbon layup on the brake track dissipates heat better now.

Detail pics and weights, plus the hubs and mountain bike stuff, after the break…

Rockshox Leaks New Monarch XX with XLoc Hydraulic Lockout

2012 Rockshox Monarch XX with XLoc hydraulic remote lockoutRockshox has a formal press announcement scheduled for tomorrow, but they just leaked this image of an all-new Monarch XX rear shock with X-Loc hydraulic remote lockout. Seems SRAM likes to trickle things out this year.

Assuming it works like the XLoc for their forks, the action should be super smooth at the button with minimal weight added to the system. If it’s a true, full lockout with only “emergency” break open valves a la Floodgate, we’ll be pretty pleased.

More coming soon…
