Pure Fix Cycles Shifts Up a Gear, now offers sizing and 16 color combinations

Pure_Fix_Cycles_Promo_Image

Back in February we informed you lovely readers about Pure Fix Cycles.  At that time, they were selling a $299 fixed gear bike direct from their website.  The bike came in six different color schemes, and the only size was a 56cm frame.

Well, it looks like they have stepped their game up a half step with their newest shipment.  While you still can’t customize your ride from the factory, you now have 16 different color combinations to choose from.  They now have a limited size range as well.  On offer are small (52cm), medium (56cm), and large (60cm). The build kit has been has been upped to include Oury grips, wellgo pedals and cages, 43mm deep rims with one spoke a different color, radius brakes, a sealed bottom bracket, Kenda 700×25 tires, and a Vader saddle.  The parts will be bolted on to a tig-welded hi-tensile steel frame.  Along with the new specs come a price bump as well.  $325 (plus free shipping) brings this turn-key hipster fixie home.

Electric Bicycle Rentals in London Now Available from Hertz

Hertz_Rents_Electric_Bikes

Back in April 2009, the mayor of London, Boris Johnson, announced his plan to make the city the electric vehicle capitol of Europe.  Two years down the road, Hertz is now on board doing their part by adding a fleet of full electric vehicles to their Marble Arch branch.  Included in that lineup are 12 electric bikes from Ultra Motor.  Hertz will rent you an electric folder called the Fast4ward Edge, or the more traditional A2B Hybrid 24.  With your electric bike rental, you will also receive training on how to operate the machine, a lock, a copy of the AA Leisure Guide to London with suggested bike rides, and an optional helmet.  The rentals run £20 (about $32) a day.

Other New Goodies from Acros – Block Lock Headset, Shot Peened 29er Wheels, More!

acros block lock headset prevents your handlebar from hitting your mountain bike frame during a wreck

While the A-GE hydraulic shifting set up was Acros’ highlight, they had several other really nice components on hand.

Above, the Block Lock headset uses an internal bumper with a slotted clamp-on spacer to prevent your handlebar from swinging too far ’round and knocking your top tube when things go south. The outside only tells half the story, you gotta see the inside to really get familiar with it, and we’ve got just the pic after the break, along with photos and specs on sweet flat pedals, double clamp seatpost and some really slick – er, bumpy – shot peened 29er wheels…

SE Bikes To Release Quadangle Fixed Gear Frame

If you’ve been thinking about getting a new freestyle fixed gear bike, but just haven’t found anything you like so far, perhaps you will be interested in the newest offering from  SE Bikes. While it hasn’t officially been released, the 2012 SE Quad Fix is coming. Based on the unmistakable lines of the Quadangle BMX frame, the fixed gear version is very similar with the exception of the loop tail rear.

Since there aren’t a whole lot of details available on the new frame, you’ll just have to jump past the break to check out Wizard’s personal SE Quad Fix, along with one of his most recent videos!

Video: Niner Bikes’ Jet 9 R.D.O. Overview

There’s no doubt the Niner Jet 9 R.D.O. was the hot mountain bike commodity at PressCamp, with constantly empty racks and lots of orange, white and black carbon 29ers on the trails at Deer Valley.

Here, Niner Bikes president Chris Sugai gives us a complete run down of the bike. It’s a little long and jumps around a bit, but somehow we don’t think you’ll mind. For more pics and details, check this post.

Video: Acros Hydraulic Shifting In Action

Acros was on hand at PressCamp to show off their new A-GE hydraulic shifting drivetrain setup. The system works via two fluid filled hoses running between each shifter and the respective derailleur.

Based in Stuttgart, Germany, Acros’ factory has 46 CNC milling machines shared with their bearing company, which is where their bearing expertise comes from. Those bearings are incorporated into the shifters and derailleurs, and almost every part is machined in house. That’s a big part of why the system retails for $2,000 USD, but it’s also why it’s so light and so smooth.

The video above shows how it works, and more pics after the break fill in the story…

Sram Teases New DH Parts

The rumors have been circulating for awhile now, and with pictures like this that have been up on Sram’s facebook page for a few weeks, it’s only a matter of time until the veil of secrecy is removed. Actually, Sram just finished up their press camp in  Les Gets-Passportes du Soleil, so you can expect the news sooner rather than later.

Rumors have been flying about a DH specific XO group, which are pretty much confirmed with the XO derailleur pictured above with its Exact Actuation DH. What isn’t known, is whether it will go ten speed, or possibly fewer speeds as is the trend with micro cassettes on DH rigs.

In addition, there is a good chance that this will finally be the release of DLC coated stanchions for at least the Boxxer, along with other Rock Shox Forks. Also, I frankly wouldn’t be surprised to see the changes that have been announced for the current Elixirs, to find their way into the Codes or other brakes in the line up.

You can count on seeing it here, as soon as we get it. But, until then, you’ll just have to have a look at Greg Minnaar’s Blackbox equipped V10 after the break.

The Casual Clipless SPD Shoe Review: Mission Workshop’s Rondel vs. Chrome’s Kursk Pro

Rondel_vs_Kursk_Pro

Let me start by stating that I hate toe cages and straps.  However, I also hate changing my shoes when I get to work.  I have been keeping my eye out for just the right shoe that can do it all.  A shoe that allows me to clip in on my commutes, but is also comfortable enough to wear around the office all day long.  This search ended with two pair of shoes in my possession.  The first being the Mission Workshops Rondel, and the second being the Chrome Kursk Pro.  I have been wearing both for a few months now, and past the break you will find out just how they perform on and off the bike.
