World’s First Triple Backflip on a BMX!

OK, I’m pretty sure this isn’t supposed to happen outside of a video game. Just when you think trick progression is slowing, someone goes and sends a triple backflip! You may not have heard of New Zealand BMXer Jed Mildon before, but you have now, and I’m guessing this won’t be the last you hear or see of Jed. Incredible…

Road ID Offers New Slim Version

Chances are, if you’re enough of a cyclist to be reading Bike Rumor, then you probably know all about Road ID already. I almost never take a pedal stroke without my Sport version on, and in the rare occasion that I forget it, I feel incredibly naked and vulnerable. My only complaint about it was that the band is a little cumbersome with some jackets and arm warmers and it got funky pretty quickly. The Elite was always an option, but I was never liked it enough over the Sport to buy a second one…

Enter, the Slim. Read more about it, and see it in action, after the jump…

Video: Rapha Continental The Movie

Rapha Continental – The Movie from RAPHA on Vimeo.

“We didn’t create this style of riding. In fact, we’ve been inspired by hundreds of like-minded cyclists we’ve met on roads all across the country. To a man (or woman), they are riders who have a penchant for gravel, who delight in a local’s tale, and who share our appetite to push the boundaries of distance and ability.”

There’s an App For That: New Iphone Apps for Bikes

This will probably read like one of those commercials where they tell you how much you’re missing out on if you don’t have an iPhone, but there really are some cool new bike related apps for the iPhone. BioLogic’s BikeBrain app has been out for awhile now, and effectively turns your iPhone into an easy to use bicycle computer. Use the app along with BioLogic’s own iPhone 4 bike mount, and all of a sudden you have a large full color cycling computer with touch screen capability.

While the original BikeBrain is still available for free download, now BioLogic offers the BikeBrain Plus which is an upgrade package for the original BikeBrain and only costs $1.99. In addition to all the useful features of the original, the upgrade features completely customizable training programs, GPS mapping, a calorie tracker and the ability to publish rides to Google Maps or export them via email to popular ride tracking programs. In addition, the Plus version allows you to store the information from infinite rides, while the free version only allows for keeping 10.

Gates, as in Gates Carbon Drive, also released a new app recently which helps to find the perfect tension for your bike’s belt drive. How? Check it out after the break.

Review: DannyShane Lausanne jersey

Hailing from just outside of Dallas, Texas, DannyShane are a young company dedicated to the design and production of cycling gear that does not compromise on performance, style, or environmental friendliness.  First out of the gate for the company were a line of race-oriented jerseys made of 44-50% Bamboo White Ash, a moisture-wicking, antimicrobial, and thermoregulating material- including the granite Lausanne jersey tested here.

We had the chance to talk to the folks from Interbike last year and were impressed by their determination not to use their “Eco Mission” compromise their products’ performance or aesthetics.  In fact, while many will find their gear appealing for environmental reasons, DannyShane intend to make every piece competitive with other high-end product on performance grounds alone.   After eight months in the Lausanne, it seems to me as though they’re well on their way.  Hit ‘more‘ to find out why.

PeopleforBikes: Bikes Make Life Better Video

We all know that when people ride bikes, life is better. In this short video, we bring this idea to life as riders trigger projectors throughout a city, transforming an urban environment into a vibrant, colorful world. A world made better, by bikes.

It’s cool little videos like this that can help to refocus on the simple joys of riding a bike. Yes, we all know they should be wearing helmets, let’s look past that for the deeper message in the video. Bikes are good, people on bikes are better, and to show your support make sure you have signed the PeopleforBikes Pledge!

More 2×10 Options…Little AND Big rings

They say that if you have a great idea for something new, it’s already been done and can be found on the internet or in the adult film industry. A few months ago the 2×10 drivetrain entered my 135lb, skinny legged, high cadence life. As everyone should know by now, the gear ratios offered with the 2×10 are a little bigger then the 3×9. Which isn’t a big deal to a lot of people but, to me…it’s a small detail that has a huge impact.

Prototype Profile Racing road and cyclocross hub

Incredibly well known in the BMX world for their prolific cranks and durable hubs, Profile Racing looks to be branching out into the road an CX market with a new rear hub. Details are slim, but expect the hub to have 6 pawl instant engagement, and in a poking a little fun at Chris King, Profile Tweeted that it may sound like Angry Wasps.

The new hub should be available in 24, 28, and 32 holes and like almost all Profile products, they will be made in the US. Expect them, soonish. We’ll keep you covered.
