Velocity Releases Blunt SL Wheelset

Looking to build on the success of their P35 and Blunt rims, Velocity recently announced their newest rim, the Blunt SL. In addition to the rim, Velocity will also be offering two complete wheelsets with the Pro and Comp models. Everything will be available in both 26″, 650b,  and 29″ versions and all will be tubeless ready with the addition of Velocity’s Velotape kit. The end result looks to be a fairly light “XC race day” wheelset that won’t break the bank.

Retro Gary Fisher Cake Mountain Bike Video Propaganda

Now Available: Voodoo Zobop Full Suspension

Initially unveiled at Interbike last year, Voodoo’s new 5.5″ Zobop is in stock and shipping now. The Zobop relies on Joe Murray’s FPP, or Floating Pivot Point suspension linkage which puts it in the SDL (Short Dual Link) category. Up front the Zobob receives a tapered 1.5-1.125 Zerostack headtube to keep things stiff and low, with the addition of some beefy gussets on the top and down tubes.

Considering the Zobop’s incredibly low retail of $999, this could be a steal of an upgrade for any riders looking to get into full suspension, or even those looking to upgrade their current full sussers.

Carroll Composites’ Prototype Carbon Fiber 29er Mountain Bike, Cyclocross Bike & More

Carroll Composites prototype carbon fiber 29er hardtail mountain bike

Carroll Composites is a small brand based near Boone, NC, with a wide assortment of frames, parts and accessories from designer Donovan Carroll.

The latest is his full carbon 29er hardtail mountain bike, which he and a few other testers raced at the BURN 24 Hour Challenge over Memorial Day weekend. The bike pictured above is a 2nd generation test mule, and yes, it’s quite similar in appearance to the Specialized Stumpjumper and Merida Big.Nine bikes – for good reason, Donovan says they come out of the same factory.

More pics of that, plus his King Louie carbon cyclocross bike and VIP road bike and more (like that Race Mate folding bike stand holding the bike above) right after the break…

Performance Bike’s Access Stealth 29er Carbon Mountain Bike – Photo’d & Weighed

2011 performance bike access stealth 29er carbon fiber mountain bike

In development for about two years, the Access Stealth 29er carbon fiber mountain bike is a budget conscious weight weenie’s dream come true.

The top of the line 1.0 model, shown above, comes in a slick matte/gloss finish that highlights the broad weave pattern of the woven outer layer of carbon. As shown for a 19″ frame with full XTR, Fox fork, Stan’s wheels and tires, Fizik Gobe saddle and no-name bar, stem and post, it weighed in at just 20lbs 12oz. As a house brand for Performance Bike, Access could likely refer to it’s attainability on a budget – retail is just $4,499.99 and like most everything at Performance, it’s on sale for $3,999.99.

For those on a serious budget, the same ~1,100g frame (claimed) can be had on their complete 4.0 bike for $1,699.99. Interested? Check more pics after the break…

Bikerumor Pic Of The Day: Close Call

Immediately turned around and rode toward the truck when Brady Thompson’s GoPro HD caught this bolt hitting Zippy do da trail. I’m the guy riding out front.”

Spy Shots! 2012 Specialized Epic 29er w/ Kashima Future Shock and SID 29er BRAIN Fork!

2012 Specialized S-Works Epic 29er prototype with Kashima coated future shock and Rockshox SID 29er with BRAIN internals

Spied at the BURN 24 Hour this weekend under an East Coast test rider (don’t worry WD, we got the OK from our Specialized guy to post this), the 2012 Specialized S-Works Epic 29er sports some seriously upgraded suspension hardware.

From the looks of things, the frame stays virtually unchanged from the 2011 model, though the rider said there were some minor tweaks to the layup. The big changes come with the spec, particularly the suspension. Up front, Specialized wasted no time in getting together with Rockshox to develop a SID 29er fork with their BRAIN internals. In the back, their FutureShock, made by Fox, gets the Kashima treatment. From there, this bike was built up with some of WD’s personally goodies, like gold Industry Nine hubs and spokes with Specialized’s carbon fiber rims, so what you’re seeing here isn’t what’s likely to show up on your showroom floor, but the frame and suspension most likely will.

DUELL Roadmaster Audax Frame

PRESS RELEASE: The DUELL Roadmaster Audax frame is handmade with Dedacciai COM 12.5 tubing a development of a tube set from the Italian manufacturer Deda, which was launched in the late 90’s with the complicated name of 18MCDV6. This letter-number combination is actually the code for the steel alloy and the extent to which other elements are added.

These tubes were revolutionary because they have a much higher tensile strength (1250 N/mm2) over the commonly used chromoly steel tubes (up to 450 N/mm2). Furthermore, the hardening of the heat-treated tubes after the welding process, makes the weld exceptionally strong and allows for thinner tube walls to be lighter and oversized whilst being extremely stiff. Among famous cyclist who used these frame tubes was Miguel Indurain. Later, the strength of the tubing was further enhanced by Deda, with heat treatment (SAT 14.5 tubing) and a kinetic surface (EOM 16.5 tubing). These three sets of tubes called Dedacciai 12.5 are used today to build the Duell Roadmaster frame.

Custom frame sizes are between 49 and 67 cm.
Headset: 1 1/8 Integrated

Frames can be specified with standard rear derailler dropout or for a Rohloff Speedhub chain tensioner . Frameset includes forks, headset and seat post clamp.

Prices
Roadmaster Steel Frame and Forks  £1399.
Roadmaster with full carbon forks £1499
