North Shore Billet’s Prototype AM Stem

North Shore Billet has been around now since all 2003, yet they are still somewhat unknown, especially in segments of the US Market. As Marc reported recently, this certainly isn’t due to lack of effort, or attention to detail. In fact, their disc brake adapters clearly show that NSB does sweat the small stuff, and their dedication to high precision machining shows through in the end.

For a while NSB has been pumping out cable guides, disc brake adapters, and derailleur hangers. While Peter has been working on stems for years according to their blog, this is the first stem they have to show to the public. The NSB AM stem is still a prototype, but it certainly looks good from here.

This particular prototype is machined (in house, of course) from 6061 T6 aluminum, features M6 bolts front and back, and is 70mm in length.

Check out a few more angles, along with the custom hollow cap after the break!

Northwave Evolution Shorts and Jersey: High End Clothes that aren’t Built for Racing

Ok, so you could totally race in the Evolution line, but that’s not the point. When Northwave set out to design the Evolution line, they specifically wanted to tailor it to the sportive, or gran fondo rider. People who are out riding long distance organized rides, or training rides who need technical performance wear, but at the same time need all day comfort and additional organization for supplies and cue cards.

What’s more, is the fact the Evolution was even designed to flatter the figure of riders who aren’t quite pro cyclists, with a forgiving cut, and a purposely dark jersey front to try and hide any Lycra abominations due to wearing a light jersey over dark shorts.

Full specs along with the matching bib shorts after the break!

Spotted! Prototype Raleigh Carbon Fiber Cyclocross Bike

2012 Raleigh Carbon Fiber Cyclocross Bike Prototype

Raleigh’s marketing man, Brian, in a hushed voice, said “hey, stop by the Diamond Back booth, I have something to show you.”

Problem is, he didn’t say he was only there for that day and, Sea Otter being what it is, I didn’t get by until the last day only to find out he was long gone and the “something” was gone with him. Fortunately, he’s pretty good about email and not to bad with a camera, and now we have photos and info. That “something” turns out to be a prototype full carbon cyclocross bike that takes the singlespeed SSCX frame and made it shifty. More pics and details after the break…

10 Speed Twist Shifter For SRAM and Shimano Dynasys!

dk lites recon 10 speed gripshift twist shifters for 2x10 sram and shimano drivetrains

While SRAM is mum on whether they’ll ever introduce a twist shifter for the 2×10 drivetrains, and we’re guessing Shimano is not really working on it, we just (finally) found some that were designed specifically for the new breed of 10 speed mountain bike drivetrains.

DK-Lites, the Asian distributor for them, sent over some images of the Recon CX-10 (SRAM) and SXTR (Shimano Dynasys) 10 speed twist shifters. If you’re interested, you can contact DK-Lite’s Doddy on their facebook page. Price is $45 plus $15.90 shipping to the U.S. He says he rides both and they work smoothly, but we’re hoping to get our own set in here for review. More pics and details after the break…

TRP’s Trick New Singlespeed Brake Levers, Shorter Mini V-Brakes, Parabox Hydraulic Converter, More

trp rrl sl retro classic carbon fiber singlespeed road bike brake levers

TRP’s highlight was certainly the Parabox cable-to-hydraulic disc brake converter that’s been popping up on bikes like the Felt prototype disc brake carbon cyclocross bike, and we’ve got plenty of specs and pics on it after the break.

But they also had these new singlespeed brake levers with push-button cable release, some new shorter Mini V-brakes for SRAM levers and a sneak peek at a forthcoming mag road brake for Shimano’s 7900 levers. It’s all pretty sweet looking…

Close Up Look at Magura’s Carbon MT8 Disc Brakes, Plus New Thor 150 Fork, Internals

2012 magura thor 150mm suspension fork with new internals Magura sent out images and info on their new MT8 carbon fiber-bodied hydraulic disc brakes before Sea Otter, so we used the show to get some closeup pics, weights and details…all of which is after the break.

Tucked back in the service area of their booth, though, was an all-new 150mm Thor suspension fork. And inside that were some all-new internals that’ll make their way across Magura’s forks for 2012.

The new Thor 150 has fixed travel and a new 15mm thru axle option, which will also be available on the Thor 140 and Marathon 120. Their old Flight Control remote travel adjust system is now called Lift Select, and will only come on the new 150 as an option. Lift Select is a simpler activation that lets you flick a switch and compress the fork without having to hold and release the lever while pushing down like on the old system. The fork works like normal when compressed, just with less travel. Drops down to 110mm and is really meant as a climbing aid only and not for regular use in the lower position. Available either as a remote or crown mounted system, not retrofittable.

Jump past the break for more pics and info on both the fork and brakes…

Spotted! Custom John Caletti Dirt Jump Mountain Bike

custom john caletti dirt jump mountain bike

John Caletti’s understated style is something we’ve appreciated when we’ve seen his handiwork at NAHBS, but it’s been shown on fairly standard issue road, cyclocross and mountain bikes. What you’re looking at here, though, is the first ever dirt jump bike he’s built. A customer had it in the Magura booth while we were shooting the new MT8 brakes and some other good stuff.

Initial Review: Craft Zero Extreme Concept base layer

Thought it’s still early in a lot of places for shorts and lightweight jerseys, most of us are thankfully shedding our heavy insulating layers for the year.  Knickers and knee warmers are classic transition season bottoms, but there aren’t a whole lot of of tops on the market that handle temperatures between 50 and 65 degrees particularly well.  When Craft’s Zero Extreme Concept base layer came across our inbox earlier this year, it sounded tailor made for shoulder season riding.

Claimed to be Craft’s “most advanced base layer to date,” the Zero Extreme Concept is built of a lightweight ZERO wicking fabric with panels of extremely breathable COOL Superlight stretch mesh around the shoulders, across the upper back, and at the wrists.  The long-sleeved top was born out of Craft’s Nordic ski program- click “more” to see how it performs on the bike…

Bikerumor Pic Of The Day: Pretty In Pink

Take a look at the pink bike!

Photo submitted by Rob English of English Cycles, “kind of a fun project to share; wanted to show you the cruiser I just finished. 29er, Nuvinci hub, wooden fenders – definitely a departure from my usual race bikes, but it is just so smooth to ride!”

See the rest of the bike after the break.
