Friday Roundup – Bicycle Bits And Pieces

audi duo wooden bicycle by renovo bikes

  • Audi has partnered with Renovo to introduce the Duo, a wood commuter bicycle that’ll be available in two versions: Sport and City (shown) with several finish options. Decked out with Gates’ CenterTrack belt drive, Shimano Nexus and Alfine internally geared hubs, disc brakes, racks and lights, the bikes will be available in about 300 U.S. dealerships. Prices range from $6,530 to $7,350.
  • The UCI has announced that it has plans to incorporate a Cyclocross Cup in the North American road racing calendar. The idea has been in development for more than two years with test subject riders including Tim Johnson, Andy Jacques-Maynes, Jeremy Powers, Jesse Anthony, Chris Jones and other top North American cyclocross racers who also race full road seasons. The race within the races would be called the NARRCC (North American Road Racing Cyclocross Cup) and give the pro ‘crossers a chance for more recognition when racing against the pro roadies. • Rick, of See And Be Seen, has sent us a link to some hi-viz jerseys. The site’s not super-fancy, but the prices are great ($22.00 for a short sleeve jersey) and it’s always good to be extra visible to traffic. Check out the site here.
  • Looking for a job in the cycling industry? BikeBiz has just created a separate Twitter feed for their job listings. Follow them at @BikeBizJobs to get out of your rut.
  • Kirk Pacenti of Pacenti Cycle Design sold his 12-year old company to the investment group, Top Five, also from Chattanooga, Tennessee. Short-term goals are to reactivate the Bikelugs.com frame building product line and develop a full line of Pacenti components. Long term, the company plans to develop (in the U.S.!) advanced composites and manufacturing technologies to compete with Asia on price.
  • The Cambridge Raincoat Company has just launched a new line of women’s lightweight, water-and-wind proof trench coat-style rain coats for cycling that put an equal emphasis on style and function. Pic after the break.
  • Red Bull is adding Fixed Gear Track and Freestyle to their events roster. The Red Bull Ride & Style will be held Saturday, April 30th at Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco, CA. The “Style” part of the event has urban contemporary artists to creating parts of the freestyle ramps, obstacles, and the track starting line arch that will be a “collision of fixed gear biking and urban contemporary art”. Let’s hope no one gets hurt.

Congrats to Kirk Pacenti on the BikeLugs.com sale. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!

From a very happy owner of a Haro Beasley 650B 1×9 with Pacenti Neo-Moto 2.3 tires, hoping to upgrade to a Velocity P35 wheelset soon (also of Pacenti design)…
