Cassette Floss, Cleaning Wipes and Spit Lube from Spin Power

Spin Power, which happens to be located right down the road from us in Greensboro, NC, had a couple of new products at the New Amsterdam Bike Show in NYC.

Perhaps the coolest is their new Cassette Cleaning Floss, an elastic strap with rubberized loops on either end to make cleaning between the cogs of a tight, dirty cassette super easy. Stretch it thin the string out for narrower spaces (ie. 11 speed). Even better, it’s only about $3.00.

The Slippery Spitt Lube is a non-toxic, silicone enhanced wet lube that claims to be super durable, and it won’t thicken in the cold. Their new Cleaning Wipes come in two sizes and are available in single- and 4-packs. They’re solvent free but will cut through grease and grime after a repair or if your bike needs a polish. Check the pic of the floss in action after the break…

For now, details are short, and all we have to show you are some close up detail shots after the break!

  • The Velodroid app (~$3.20 USD) is being introduced as an Android app “for serious cyclists, developed by nerdy cyclists.” It has a clean and simple interface for tracking your ride, elevation, gradient, and will let you upload your data to any online service. We like their tagline: “No access to Spanish steaks? You can still train smarter with Velodroid’s Intervals feature.”
  • From the League of American Bicyclists: “Your state DOT may be getting ready to take away millions of dollars in bicycle and pedestrian funding. In the latest budget deal between the Republicans and Democrats, the two parties agreed to rescind (read: take back) $2.5 billion in unspent federal transportation funds. Your state DOT has the power to decide which funds they send back. And based upon history we know what happens next… Last year, when states had to send back $2.2 billion in transportation funds, almost half of that money came from programs that fund bicycling and walking projects.” Take action today: Click here for more information and to compose and send a message to the governor of your state.
  • Prescott College students, along with the One Street organization, are working together to make their college town (of Prescott, Arizona) a more bicycle friendly town. One Street plans on using the success of this plan to help other university towns in need of friendlier transportation options.

Close Up: Kyle Strait’s New Pivot M4X Four Cross Mountain Bike

2012 pivot M4X four cros mountain bike ridden by kyle strait

Pivot Bikes brought out their new M4X four-cross mountain bike just for their sponsored riders to race at Sea Otter. Not only did they test it out through the slaloms and jumps, but Kyle Strait raced his to a 12th place in the downhill.

The new bike uses their DW Link suspension design with 4″ of travel. It has a much much shorter lower link than the DH, but about the same as the Mach4. Because there’s no front derailleur, Chris Cocalis, Pivot’s founder, could really box section and overbuild the front of the rear triangle and linkage. Lower link bearings are set really wide and double row like the new Pheonix DH bike, and the tubeset is same as the Firebird.

Bianchi Introduces Matte Black Sempre Road Bike with SRAM Red Black

2012 bianchi sempre compact road bike matte black with sram red black component group

Bianchi has just released a limited edition matte black version of their Sempre road bike. With a matte black carbon frame, custom deep dish Vision wheels and a SRAM Red Black build with black carbon FSA SL-K cranks, it’s looking pretty sweet to us (although the blacked out chainrings of SRAM’s complete Black group would have really put it over the top!).

It’ll be available in the U.S. in June for $6,399 while they last. Introduced at Interbike last year, the Sempre is a crit-racer style bike aimed at the U.S. crowd. It’s got a BB30 with compact crankset and straight 1-1/8″ steerer. Detail photos after the break…
