Super Clean Moots/Chris King Stem Collaboration Found at NAHBS

Even with the reputation of being one of the most precise companies in the biz, apparently even Chris King appreciates the incredible smoothness that is Moots welding. So, it makes sense that when they were looking to have two completely integrated stem/spacer/headset top cap made for their Cielo show bikes, calling up Moots was an easy decision.

The result is a ridiculously clean, made in the US stem that incorporates every part above the upper headset bearing. The stem has such a clean look, that at first glance you may confuse it for being a threaded stem, rather than the clever threadless model it really is.

In addition to the road stem shown above, Moots also made a special cross stem for CK that includes an integrated cable stop and barrel adjuster for cleaning up the lines on a cross bike.

Check out some pics of the cross stem, along with the complete Cielo bike after the break!

Video: Black Cat Bicycles’ Road Trip to NAHBS Hints at New Truvativ Components

Documenting their road trip to NAHBS, this video captures some of the riding and adventures of Todd and Jen from Black Cat Bicycles. As luck would have it, we ended up sitting across from them at a post-show party tonight and heard the story first hand how all of the, uh, souvenirs they found along the way were built in a vacant lot in Austin that was filled with the “leftovers” of vagrants that had occupied the space the night before, and how one homeless person solicited a $100,000 investment in his gambling/stock investment scheme. Yeah, seriously.

Watch closely and you may just score a glimpse of some 2012 Truvativ stuff in the video, too. The more detailed story about the collaboration between SRAM and Black Cat is on their Dirt Tales blog here.

New Flight Lock-On Grips from Redline

Are people often telling you to get a grip? If so, simply inform them that you already have plenty on your bikes, but if they want to buy you the new Redline Flight Lock-ons, they can go right ahead. Not only will the new interlocking tri-tip tread pattern help you keep your grip on the grip with or without gloves, the locking collars will ensure your new grips won’t fly off the handle bar.

In all seriousness though, the new lock-on Flight grips look to be yet another great option if you are looking for a high quality, grippy lock-on. The grips are available in two sizes, the expert which is 120mm long and 3omm in diameter, and the pro which is 130mm long and 32mm in diameter.

Color wise the pro will be available in a clear grip with blue or red collars, or black grip with black collars, while the expert will be available in a clear grip with red collars, or black grip with black collars. Both models will include push in end plugs, and each will retail for just $24.99 at your local Redline Dealer.

Pink Gates Belt Drive?

This pink Gates Belt Drive is a custom order for Pablove.org, and is one of about 20 in existence. They might have them available eventually for sale as a fundraiser. We hear Lance has a yellow one for some little charity he’s involved in. Stock colored offerings are something that’s on Gate’s radar, but nothing firm yet.

BAMF Bikes Soon-To-Be Carbon 29r Hardtail

If you have to ask what BAMF stands for, well, go ask your mother. Ok, scratch that, you’d better go ask your dad instead. With a name like BAMF, it’s no surprise that the crew behind the brand seem to pride themselves on their attitude as much as their product.

Currently the offer a line of hardtails, including two 26 inch wheeled models, and two 29 inch wheeled models, all of which are aluminum. The other unique thing about BAMF bikes, is that as the old saying goes, you can have any color you want, as long as it’s black. All BAMF bikes come in black powdercoat, and leave the decal placement (if any) up to the consumer, which should go a long way in the eyes of many who feel having a company’s name 31 times on one frame, is just a little too much.

Obviously, this 29r is BAMF’s first available carbon frame, which happens to be a 1300g frame with a tapered head tube. The name wasn’t specified in the anonymous tip we received from BAMF bikes, but I have a feeling the name of the photo above may have something to do with it.

Check out some close ups of the bike, and find out where you can buy one after the break!

Friday Roundup – Bicycle Bits and Pieces

scott 949 scale 29er carbon fiber road bike

  • Scott Bicycles has signed on a sponsor of the USAC Nationals and Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival in July. Ride Sun Valley will include an All Mountain event, a fat tire crit, a week of Epic Rides and more. We’ve been there, and the singletrack is world-class, and you can check out Ketchum Bike Park pump track, which Scott Bikes helped create. If you’re going to a national race this year, we’d recommend putting this at the top of the list. They’ll probably have some of their 2012 bikes floating around, too…
  • Floyd Landis, or at least someone pretending to be him, has begun a spoof email attack on the UCI. Chronicled on NYvelocity.com, the charade has raised the ire of the governing body thanks to its fully fleshed out joke: It involves a fake lawyer, fake law practice, fake twitter handles and more. Certainly good for a laugh if nothing else.
  • The Endurance Sports Expo is this weekend and has over 200 national and local vendors and brands exhibiting. You can demo road, triathlon and mountain bikes on the road or trail, there are free training seminars from pro and Olympic medal winners and the first 750 folks through the door each day get a schwag bag. It’s at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA on February 26th and 27th.
  • Ritchey has a new full zip Felpe WCS sweatshirt by Capo that’s awesome. We’ve got one and it’s super comfy, made in Italy and 100% cotton. Not too warm, not too cool, perfect for spring and fall. Picture after the break…

True Freeride: Darren Berrelcloth’s 2000 Foot Hike-a-Bike

Like most great freeride pioneers, when Darren is traveling the most remote stretches of the globe, he is not only taking in the sights, but also observing all the natural features the area has to offer and thinking to himself, ” I can ride that.”

During one of Darren’s most recent trips to the Gobi Desert, his goal was to find and ride the biggest line he could find. After hiking his bike up the steep face all the way to the peak, some 2000 feet up, Bearclaw mounted up on his bike and pinned it all the way back down.

Fortunately for us, the folks at Freeride Entertainment were along for the ride to capture it all on film.
