Fast, Not Cheap, And Under Eleven Pounds – 10.36 lb Parlee Road Bike

All we really know about this bike is what we see in front of us and what we can read on Cycle Zine. Oh right, and it weighs in at 10.36 lbs.

The bike is built up with all the craziness from THM-Carbones, AX Lightness, Lightweight, and, of course, Sram.

More artfully executed photos by Puck Ananta and (most) component prices and weights after the break.

Red Bull Mini Drome: Race Around the World’s Smallest Velodrome

York Hall in the East End of London was home to England’s first race on the world’s smallest velodrome. Perhaps motivated by Portland Design Works newest office installation, the Red Bull Mini Drome was a contest of not necessarily fitness, but more so the skill and the ability to stay on the track, especially after fatigue set in (you’re going to want to watch the whole video to catch all the carnage).

Cyclists from almost all walks of life entered the competition, but it was won by none other, than Mongoose trials rider Chris Akrigg.

Electra Files Lawsuit Against Trek; Cites Patent Infringement

Reported on Bicycle Retailer and Industry News on Tuesday, Electra is seeking damages against Trek for what they feel is a violation of their recently awarded patent. The Flat Foot Technology was a staple, and main selling point, of Electra bikes for several years while the patent was pending. With many imitators around the industry, it was only a matter of time before Electra began to protect their proprietary technology.

Mishka DART x Milwaukee Bicycle Co. Bruiser

This collaboration between two of the companies that sponsor John Prolly, which he helped design, was first seen at Interbike a few months ago. Yesterday, he posted some photos of his newly built up ride on his blog, Prolly Is Not Probably. Production models, including complete builds, are expected soon. Check out more photos after the jump…

2011 Moots Snow Bike – Headed to Arrowhead 135

This wicked-serious Moots snow bike is headed to the Arrowhead 135 in northern Minnesota. It belongs to one Eric Hines, whose name is written in Iron Maiden font on the top tube. It is based on the Moots Rigormootis, with the exception of the over 3″ of tire clearance. It needs all that clearance to accept a Surly Larry 3.8 tire. It’s also got a Salsa rigid steel fork and…oh, just watch the video!

Contador to be banned: Saxo Bank reacts

Team Saxo Bank, the team for whom Alberto Contador should be riding this season, released a press release late on the evening of 26 January. It details their response to Contador’s upcoming ban for testing positive for a banned substance, Clenbuterol, on the second rest day of the 2010 Tour de France. The press release begins:

Tonight Riis Cycling, while at training camp at Mallorca, received the news that the Competition Committee of the Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) will recommend a ban of one year for Alberto Contador.

It therefore effectively confirms the Spanish newspaper reports today that this is what RFEC would be recommending.

Although detected only in tiny quantities, Clenbuterol, which promotes lean muscle, is a completely banned substance: there is no legal minimum threshold.

Contador has claimed that he ate tainted meat (Clenbuterol is similarly banned in meat production, though some unscrupulous farmers do use it). However, even if he can prove this contamination, by the letter of the law the doping authorities cannot eliminate, only reduce, the ban.

Although there has been no official public confirmation from RFEC, and therefore no UCI response (and we should remember that both WADA and the UCI have threatened to challenge the judgement if they deem it too lenient), it seems increasingly inevitable that Contador will be stripped of his 2010 Tour de France win.

Contador will have 10 days to appeal the judgement before RFEC issues a final ruling on 9 February. Riis Cycling, which runs Saxo Bank, has called a press conference for this Friday at 16:00 CET at which Contador will be present.

2011 We The People Complete Line Flip Book, Investment Lugged C.R.E.A.M. Frame

Details on We The People’s 2011 C.R.E.A.M. frame have been out for some time, yet it still doesn’t take away from the innovative manufacturing employed on Andrew Jackson’s new signature frame. While investment cast (or lost wax casting) drop outs have been in BMX for awhile now, the use of investment casting for heat tube and seat stay lugs is uncharted territory.

Due to the casting process, WTP is able to create an extremely smooth, flowing head tube design that is much more visually striking than previous designs. In addition to the aesthetic qualities of casting, the use of stepped lugs to insert into the top and down tubes guarantee an extremely strong weld that will hold up to the abuse a BMX frame of this caliber is sure to endure.

In addition to the new C.R.E.A.M. frame, WTP has updated some of its completes for 2011, and most notably added an improved removable brake system on the Pro and Elite Series.

Check out the rest of the C.R.E.A.M.’s lugs and the WTP 2011 flip book after the break!

New MTB Rims from French Rim Maker Mach-1

You may not have heard of Mach-1 rims before, which really isn’t surprising considering the fact that they are better known in the industry for creating the actual machines that physically build rims and complete wheels. So as a company that manufactures the machines to make wheels and rims, it doesn’t come as a surprise that they would actually know how to build some decent rims and in turn sell them on the side.

In fact, Mach-1 has a complete line of road, MTB, and hybrid rims, along with their own spokes, nipples, and accessories. While most of Mach-1′s rim sales are currently in Europe, Mach-1 products are slowly appearing in the US with importers looking for quality rim options for inexpensive replacement wheels, such as J&B, using some of Mach-1′s less expensive rims.

The newest additions to Mach-1′s MTB wheel line up are the X-Lite disc and the Neo disc, which are both 26 inch, disc brake only rims.

How light is the X-Lite, why is Mach-1 so proud of their stickers? Find out after the break!

Bienve Aguado lands world’s first Mountain Bike Double Front Flip! *Update Now Includes Landing

You see this kind of stuff, and you just can’t help but ask, “are they human?” The race to land a double front flip to dirt has been quickly escalating lately with videos of clean doubles thrown into foam pits. While it takes an incredible amount of skill to land a trick clean into a foam pit, it is a completely different story to take that trick to dirt.

Bienve Aguado is a member of the expansive Masters of Dirt mountain bike squad, and obviously proved his mettle by being the first rider to land the double front to dirt.

Check out the incredible video of the Double Front Flip after the break!

RACE TO NAHBS! Naked Bicycles: Dave’s Bike “A Lug Story”

The offices of BikeRumor are one place where the search term “sexy lugged bicycles” showing up in your browser history would not seem odd.

This is the work of another NAHBS! bound frame builder — Naked Bicycles of Quadra Island, BC. Naked was founded ten years ago by Sam Whittingham and he has been “building custom frames one by one with love, logic and elbow grease” ever since. Whittingham is very focused on bike fit, something that he feels sets Naked apart. Something sets Naked apart — at the 2008 NAHBS Naked was awarded the People’s Choice, President’s Choice, and Best of Show titles. In 2009 Naked received the People’s Choice Award once again.

This bike was made with lug-love for a dude named Dave. More photos of the process after the break. (more…)

Custom Made Bicycle Snow Plow

Here’s one for all that snow we’ve been having lately: Craig Smith of Firefly Workshop customized his (already custom) 3-wheel bike with a working plow blade. He says it’s great for 2-3 inches when it doesn’t make sense to fire up his 8HP snowthrower. Read more about it on Make:, and see another picture after the break.
