POC Borrows HydraPak Reservoir for New VPD Spine Protecting Hydration Pack

If you’re among our more aggressive riding readers, you’re probably familiar with POC. They’ve been building their VPD (Visco-elastic Polymer Dough) into their protective gear for years, and now thrive developed a new hydration pack with VPD spine protection and a licensed HydraPak reversible reservoir. Trek’s ABP (Active Braking Pivot) Awarded U.S. Patent

PRESS RELEASE: Today, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued Trek Bicycle a patent on its Active Braking Pivot (ABP) suspension system, #7,837,213.

Invented by Trek suspension engineers James Colegrove, Dylan Howes, and Jose Gonzalez, ABP has been praised for being the first suspension technology to effectively separate braking and suspension forces. This separation allows the suspension to remain active while the rear brake is engaged.

Trek’s ABP patent has broad implications, as it covers a concentric pivot in combination with much more sophisticated and varied types of rear suspension designs.

ABP, utilizing a concentric rear pivot, was first introduced to the marketplace in May of 2007 and has since evolved to become the foundation of Trek’s full-suspension bikes, offered on eight platforms to date.

From its origins in 2006 to today’s 2011 Trek full suspension lineup, Active Braking Pivot remains a competitive performance advantage found exclusively on Trek and Trek’s Gary Fisher Collection full-suspension mountain bikes. Now patented, ABP is further proof of Trek’s commitment to leading the world in mountain bike technology.

Review/How To: Hutchinson Rep’air Tubeless Tire Patch Kit

I know what you’re thinking, “why in the world would someone review a patch kit?” The fact of the matter is that, while there are more and more tubeless tires on the market every day, it seems that the idea of repairing a tubeless tire is still fairly foreign to most. I found myself happily riding tubeless tires until a catastrophic flat occurred (in my case landing directly on a jagged rock off of a jump), and with no way to properly restore the tires tubeless ability, it would be thrown away or gifted to someone riding tubes.

I got to the point that I was fed up with not having a solid way to repair my tubeless tires, so I set out to find a tubeless repair kit that actually worked. After using a few “plug” style kits without consistent success, I tried the Hutchinson Rep’air kit.

How did it work?

Find out after the break!

Initial Review: Castelli Stelvio WS soft shell jacket

I can’t claim to be a big fan of winter.  It’s not that I dislike the season, but one doesn’t often move to the Southwest for the fresh powder.  Still, it does get cold here in the high desert, and the lack of any good skiing or other winter activities nearby means that I’m on the road or trails dang near year ’round.  So, when temperatures are in the 30s and the sun is shining (or it’s not), I’m going to be suiting up for a ride.  For cold weather riding, especially on the road, a good soft shell jacket is essential.  Given the floppiness of my old cold weather jacket, I was thrilled when Castelli offered to send out a prototype 2011 Stelvio WS jacket for us to ride and review last winter.  Hit ‘more‘ to find out if this sexy piece of Italian kit makes winter riding any more bearable…

Interbike 2010: Close Up with Norco’s 2011 Range, Phaser and Carbon 29er Jubei SL Mountain Bikes

Norco sent us images and info on their 2011 lineup back in August, but Interbike gave us the chance to peek under the hood.

Starting with the carbon Jubei SL 29er, the whole lineup looks really good in person, and they’re spec’d really well, too. The Jubei SL’s frame is full high modulus carbon fiber with a tapered headtube, BB30 bottom bracket and post mount brakes.  MSRP is just $3,175 with an SLX/XT component mix, Reba fork, Ritchey cockpit and Easton EA70 wheels.
