Irina Kalentieva Race Day Video Shows Build Up to Offenburg World Cup XC MTB Race

Topeak-Ergon rider Irina Kalentieva gives us a glimpse into the emotion leading up to a UCI World Cup mountain bike race. Filmed at Offenburg, Germany, it shows some of the technical terrain from the course as well as those sleepless moments we’ve all felt before a big race, albeit glamorously dramatized for our entertainment.

Bikerumor Pic Of The Day: Breaking Loose In Wilson Creek

Photo submitted by Mike T., “Riding one of the many trails in the Wilson Creek area of Pisgah NF (Grandfather Ranger District). This is way out, in the middle of one of the many downhill sections of the ride in a typically more remote area that most riders don’t even know about.”

Review: Enzo’s ButtonHole Chamois Cream

An angry buttonhole makes for a lousy ride, and if it (or its neighbors) aren’t happy, you won’t be either.

Enzo’s Cycling Products knows this, and they want your button to be a happy, chafe-free button. We’re happy to say, their wish came true, and we’re a bunch of happy button riding fools after using their new chamois cream.

ButtonHole is far and away our new favorite pad grease: It smells nice, it prevents chafe and irritation and it washes away cleanly. On top of that, the ingredients list is paraben, petrolatum and PPG/PEG free, so you can feel good inside and out.

Overall the ingredients lists reads fairly clean with a lot of natural oils, Cacao Seed Butter, organic silicone and some fancy herbs to keep everything smooth, lubed and infection, friction and inflammation free down there.

An 8oz tub retails for $19.95, which is a pretty good deal considering what’s in it and how well it works, and they just released a 4oz “trial size” that’s $10.95.

Check the full ingredients list and our reviewer comments after the break…

10-Year-Old Boy Invents Bike Bleeper to Alert Drivers as They Approach Cyclists

Tybelt Melia, already a serial inventor at just 10 years old, is competing in a BBC Television competition called My Genius Idea with his latest gadget, the Bike Bleeper.

Video of the episode is here if you’re in the UK (it won’t play here in the U.S., so we presume you’ve got to be within the UK’s broadcast area to see it online, too).

The Bike Bleeper sends a signal that causes a car’s radio to emit an sound, thus alerting drivers that they’re approaching a cyclist. Melia said he came up with the idea after a friend of his was hit and killed by a car while riding his bike.  Unlike past attempts that required the motorists to buy or install something, this device fits on the bike and requires no effort by the driver to use.

More details and an interview with Melia can be found here. Via BikeBiz.

Interbike 2010: O’Neal To Be Exclusive US Distributor of Bicycle Specific Leatt DBX Neck Brace

Watch any of your favorite down hill movies and you are sure to start seeing a lot more of these: the Leatt neck Brace. Originally designed for motocross riding to prevent a number of serious trauma to the rider’s neck in a crash, it wasn’t long before Leatts started showing up around the necks of downhill riders.

However, the original Leatts as intended for MX featured much larger padding due to the increased speeds and danger of extreme MX riding which made them relatively uncomfortable and limiting for bicycle riding. While Leatt sold a replacement low profile padding kit for the original braces to make them more apt for DH riding, the new DBX marks a leap forward in mountain bike protection.

Interbike 2010: Azonic Introduces a 29er Version of the Outlaw Wheelset

When Azonic first introduced the Outlaw wheelset a few years ago, they were so instantly popular that they were almost constantly sold out. They were a very durable wheelset, that came stock with adapters to fit almost every hub and frame combination available, all at a very reasonable price.

Azonic is building on their success by slowly making them lighter, and now offering the 26 inch version in the 5 colors as shown above, but perhaps the most interesting bit is that for 2011 they will be offering the burly wheel in a 29r version!

Interbike 2010: Yakima’s New Racks

Yes, still more from Interbike if you can believe it. This installment features a few new, or redesigned racks from the famous equipment transport giant, Yakima. The first rack to get some plastic surgery (couldn’t help myself) is the very popular King Joe Strap Rack. The King Joe has remained mostly unchanged since the revisions that spurred the name change from Mighty Joe to King Joe as it is known today.

While the rack on display is still a prototype, the newest version of the rack gets a complete update on the frame changing from the round steel of the previous King to the new flat oval tube shape. The base pads now stretch across the entire rack which should distribute the pressure more evenly. The ratchet mechanism at the hub has also been revised, and the new QuickTrigger system is supposed to be even easier to use, with no question whether it’s open or closed.

The arms of the King Joe won’t go unnoticed as they come in slightly narrower than its predecessor, and feature the new Stable Cradles which won’t migrate along the arms. The King Joe will still be available in a 2 bike and 3 bike rack with an MSRP of $145 and $165 respectively.

Check out the new Super Joe, and get the details on the finally available Yakima HighLite after the break!
