Moots has elevated its 29-inch wheel mountain bike offerings for 2011 with the introduction of the Mooto X RSL (Race Super Light). The new Mooto X RSL is light, stiff and sleek; built for serious cross country racing…and thanks to options to turn it into a singlespeed, it should have racers everywhere drooling. The rest is from their press release:

The Mooto X RSL is the second bike in the Moots RSL series. The Vamoots RSL (which we reviewed here), the lightest and stiffest road bike ever from Moots, was unveiled at Interbike 2009. Moots’ RSL bikes are designed from the ground up to be the highest-performing, most purposeful frames within their specific category.

“We took many of the performance-enhancing features of our Vamoots RSL and applied them to the 29er world to create a trail ripping, wicked-fast, no-holds barred cross country race steed,” said Brad Bingham, Moots’ Director of Research and Development and pro mountain biker.

Handbuilt in Steamboat Springs, CO from proprietary 3/2.5 size specific titanium tubing, the Mooto X RSL’s full race design incorporates:

  • Oversized PressFit 30 bottom bracket to maximize stiffness and provide more immediate power transfer.
  • Slightly curved down tube to facilitate fork crown clearance.
  • Oversized head tube to accommodate a zero-stack headset for additional front end stiffness.
  • Single butted seat tube designed for a 30.9 seat post for added stiffness and weight savings.
  • Rear triangle with formed chain stays increasing tire clearance and reducing weight.

The Mooto X RSL joins the already established Moots 29-inch product line. Moots was one of the first in the industry to offer a 29-inch wheel bike with the Mooto X YBB in 1999. Next came the Mooto X Rigor, followed by the full-suspension Mooto XZ in 2008.

“Over the past decade Moots has continued to refine the Mooto X design,’ said Rob Mitchell, President of Moots. “The Mooto X RSL is an example of our 29er evolution. As the new leading-edge frame in our mountain bike lineup, it’s intended for pure performance.”

The Mooto X RSL will be available spring 2011, in 16”, 17”, 18”, 19”, 20”, and 22” frame sizes. Custom geometry is also available. Custom frame options include: Slider Dropout, 14-speed Rohloff Speedhub, rack eyelets, fender mounts and third water bottle mount. All Moots bikes are handcrafted to last a lifetime and come with a lifetime warranty.

First the RSL for the road and now a RSL for the dirt…

Add a RSL built for ‘cross and we’ll have a nice little Ti trifecta.

At this rate my means will never catch up with my wants..
