Bike Pure Jersey Signed by Greg Lemond Up For Grabs

Greg lemonde signed autograph jersey

Bike Pure and Bio Racer have teamed up with three time Tour de France winner and former World Champion Greg Lemond to auction off a specially commissioned signed Bike Pure jersey for charity.

Bio Racer produced only two copies of the jersey, complete with World Championship bands on the sleeves and Greg Lemond’s name on the reverse. Bike Pure presented one set of the clothing to Lemond when they met in July and we are giving you the chance to get hold of the only remaining signed jersey.

Lemond is a cycling legend, with three Tour de France titles and a World Championship victory to his name throughout a prestigious career. Lemond is an avid anti-doping campaigner and a strong supporter of the Bike Pure organization. Bike Pure’s Myles McCorry said, “Bike Pure are very excited to have such a rare cycling jersey up for grabs and money raised will go to a worthwhile cause.”

“We are honored to have Greg Lemond’s support as we effectively have shared principles in our outlook on anti-doping. We applaud Greg’s honesty and virtue toward a more secure future for out sport.” McCorry added.

Speaking to Bike Pure this week, Greg lemond added, “I am proud to partner with Bike Pure and believe in their strong code of ethics. I hope that more cycling sponsors adopt Bike Pure’s important commitment to protecting the lives and integrity of our sport.”

Onimpex, Bio Racer’s UK distributor produce the Bike Pure range of clothing and also endorse Bike Pure’s philosophy, “Bioracer produces clothing for some of the greatest riders in the peloton but it is a huge pleasure and an honour to produce this special jersey for Greg Lemond, on of the legends of the Tour de France.”

“Like Bioracer and Bike Pure, Greg’s commitment to racing to win but racing clean is known throughout the world and this unique jersey is the perfect symbol of commitment to honest athleticism. ”

The jersey is up for charity auction on Ebay and will end at 21:09 (GMT) on Sunday 29th August 2010. Please view it here.

Bikerumor Media Cup Profile – MTBRaceNews.com’s Shannon Boffeli

dsc_0001

bikerumor-media-cup-2010A last minute addition to Bikerumor Media Cup competitors, MTBRaceNews.com’s Shannon Boffeli has thrown his hat into the ring. The BMC is the race within a race for us blogger/journo folk at the 2010 Breck Epic. So far, you’ve met Rich “Team Dicky” Dillen and Doper Suck’s Brandon Dwight, Jasen Thorpe, and yours truly, Tyler Benedict, Misfit Psycles’ Peter Keiller, and Mountain Flyer Magazine’s Jordan Carr.  Now, truly bringing up the rear, is race reporter and founder of MTBRaceNews.com, Shannon Boffeli:

Name: Shannon Boffeli
Hometown: LaMotte, Iowa (Now Salt Lake City)
Breck Epic Race Bike: 2010 Felt Team Nine?Bike Spec: Cannondale lefty fork, Stan’s No Tubes Race 29er, Ergon GX-1 grips, Race Face cranks and riser bar, Easton post, and XTR drive
Bike Weight: 21lbs 1oz

Ad Libs:  My name’s Shannon Boffeli and I’ve been riding bikes since I was fifteen years old and racing for about 19 years longer than I haven’t been racing bikes, weird. I started racing bikes as soon as I started riding, no one in the Midwest just rides, everyone races. My favorite racing accomplishment is beating my wife an I finished 7th at the 2007 TransAlp, best race experience ever!

I’m ‘racing’ in the Bikerumor Media Cup because I started MTBRaceNews.com specifically to talk about exciting races like this one and I like being in any kind of competition. Unfortunately, Brandon Dwight is racing in the Cup too, which sucks because you might not of noticed, but he podiumed here last year and was rubbing elbows with Jeremiah Bishop and will likely embarrass us all. I would like to beat the altitude in Breck, it routinely kicks my ass.

Thus far, my training has consisted of a little racing, a little training, and more time spent on the internet than a porn addict. In the month leading up to the Breck Epic this August, I’ll be preparing by riding my mountain bike until my taint has impenetrable protective callus that will withstand 6 stages on a hardtail.

If I win the Cup, I’ll celebrate by retreating to somewhere with more oxygen and spending another week marking the Park City Point to Point course by bike. Basically back-to-back stage races.

An action shot of Shannon after the break…

Breck Epic Check In

Checked in at the 2010 Breck Epic and camp is all set up. Saw the other racers competing in the Bikerumor Media Cup and heard Brandon Dwight has backed out, which means the rest of us will actually have a race on our hands. Of course, we’ll be well behind the heat brought by Jeremiah Bishop, Ross Schnell, the gang from Topeak Ergon and Pua Sawicki (and any other pros I didn’t see at dinner).

Check after the break for a photo of the setting sun hitting the mountains in the distance…

Jay Leno Demo’s an $80K Electric Bike

I’m not quite sure where the line between an electric bike ends and an electric moped begins, however PG-Bikes seems comfortable toeing that line with their new BlackTrail BT-01. PG-Bikes is expanding rapidly on a global scale, and just finished a tour of the US, stopping to see the likes of Evil Jared, West Coast Customs, and of course the master of all things with a motor: Jay Leno. PG was of course showcasing their highest end model, with an equally highend pricetag. Billed as an electric bicycle, the completely carbon fiber exercise in German engineering is gorgeous to say the least. Carbon down to the wheels, the BT-01 is trimmed in Brooks Leather and is capable of about 62 MPH!

By the looks of it, you would be forgiven if you thought it may be a tad on the heavy side but all that carbon really helps to lighten the load. In fact the battery pack weighs the same as the entire bike without the battery pack installed. Weighing in at around 40 pounds, that equates to a 20 pound bike with a 20 pound battery. Not too shabby for your $80 grand.

The BlackTrail includes all the features you may expect for the price, with integrated lights (including brake lights), an OLED speedometer and battery charge indicator, on-board charging (no need to remove the battery pack), disc brakes, and keyless ignition and security!

Check out the video of Jay riding the BT-01 after the break.

Wind Surfing Company NeilPryde Teams with BMW Designworks USA on New Line of Road Bikes

Neilpryde Alize Dura Ace

Neilpryde Alize Dura Ace

Arguably the world leader in wind surfing equipment, Neilpryde has decided to take that knowledge of carbon fiber design and manufacturing and apply it to the world of high end road bikes. Taking it one step further, Neilpryde has teamed up with BMW Designworks USA in an effort to produce the highest level of product, all available direct to the consumer.

Truth be told, the bikes look pretty good especially for a first time effort. Although with BMW Designworks on your side, there’s really no excuse for a poor design. So far there are two models to choose from, the aerodynamic focused Alize and the lightweight focused Diablo. Each model is available in three colorways, and comes in a Full Dura-Ace or Ultegra build or is also available as a frameset.

The Alize is designed with an aero seatpost while the Diablo goes with more traditional round post presumably to save weight. Both models will be stocked with Mavic Ksyrium Elite or SL wheels, and an FSA cockpit set up. Neilpryde offers a 10 year warranty on the frames with 2 of those years for the paint and decals. Even though the Neilpryde sells directly to you, their bikes aren’t exactly cheap with prices ranging from $3,950 to $5,400 depending on the model and build group. Even if you factor in their free shipping, this still works out to be right about where most shop bikes fall as far as price, if not higher depending on the model. Although, if you want something different and you only want you to work on your bike this might be right up your alley.

Check out the Diablo after the break!

Tech Article: How Rockshox Motion Control Works

rockshox-motion-control06

I took a little tour of Rockshox’s Colorado Springs, CO, facility yesterday and had Sander Rigney, RS’s product manager, run through their Motion Control compression damping system for me. If you recall, we posted a tech article on how Fox Racing Shox’s Terralogic works recently, and it’s really cool to see how different companies use completely different mechanisms to accomplish a similar end result (and by similar, I’m not comparing performance, just the fact that all suspension brands want damping, etc.).

The parts above are what make up the Motion Control for their XC oriented forks. Motion Control DH is a little different and we didn’t take a look at that on this visit (update will come if we can get photos of that system, but I’ll explain how and why these versions are mainly for XC use versus DH).

For XC / Trail / All Mountain type riding, you have two options depending on how much you wanna spend on your fork: Motion Control and Blackbox Motion Control. Technically, you also have XX Motion Control, but it is essentially the same as Motion Control without the adjustable compression damping. Again, this is explained better in a sec.

Jump past the break to see how they work to control the compression…

Bikerumor Media Cup – Eyes on the Prize

bikerumor-media-cup-trophy-2010

Check in for the 2010 Breck Epic is tomorrow. The excitement is building, but for the Bikerumor Media Cup competitors, there’s more than just pride and bragging rights on the line. There’s this sweet trophy cup. There’s only one in existence, and someone below will walk away with it, ready to be filled with the frosty beverage of their choice.

Here’s who’s in contention among us quasi-journalist like folk:

See you chumps tomorrow!

Mission Workshop and Chrome Set Sail with New Flagship Stores

The utility bag and clothing market is rapidly expanding with the major players now staking claims in the world’s major cycling cities. Mission Workshop and Chrome have both announced recently that each will have new flagship stores in some major locales.

Mission, is jumping across the pond and starting a collaboration with their friends 14 Bike Co. This new store is in addition to their original San Francisco store. The London store offers a rebirth of 14 Bike Co.’s original East London Store and will offer more than just bikes and bags. While the store will carry the full line of Mission Workshop and obviously bikes and parts from 14 Bike Co., it will offer a sit-and-fit lounge where customers can be fit for their own custom bikes made for them by 14 Bike Co. The shop will also serve as a warehouse and distribution center for Europe’s Mission Workshop resellers, offering much more simple, duty free delivery of product.

Chrome on the other hand, while also starting it’s second store away from San Francisco is choosing to set up on this side of the Atlantic. Opening at 238 Mulberry Street, the store will of course carry the full line of Chrome Bags, shoes, and clothing.

While the Mission Workshop Grand Opening party has passed us by, there is still time to make it to the Chrome Party if you happen to be in NYC on August 28 from 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Check out the full press release from both factions after the break.

Former President Bush Checks Out The Niner Jet 9

41125_425771367275_20773652275_4751307_5579217_n

Apparently, all of Former President Bush’s mountain bike crew, dubbed “Peloton 1″, are riding 29ers and he was interested in trying one out for himself. So, Niner bike co-founders Chris Sugai (pictured) and Steve Domahidy personally delivered a Jet 9 full suspension bike to the former President so he could try it out on the trails near his vacation home in Kennebunkport, Maine. According to Steve, he’s a fast technical rider and dropped 3 minutes off his best time while riding the Jet 9.
