The Sufferfest’s Angels Climbing Training Video On Sale Now, God Help Us

Lord knows I could have used this a few months ago to prepare for the Breck Epic. Sufferfest’s Angels training video is now on sale for all of us that’d like to get a bit quicker on the ascents. For $9.99 and a few minutes of download time, here’s what you get:

FROM SUFFERFEST: If you were eating lunch, 8 minutes wouldn’t seem like a lot of time. If you were relaxing on a beach, it would be cruel to only be there 8 minutes. If you were doing one of the 8 minute climbs in Angels, you’d swear to every god you can think of that it’s never going to end, that time has slowed down dramatically and that you’d rather chop your legs off than go through another second of that 8 minute eternity.

You know, we waited a while to create a Sufferfest dedicated to climbing because we didn’t have the perfect blend of workout, footage and music. But we’ve finally created it here. Something you’re probably not going to be too pleased to hear. But, if you want climbing and the kind of agony that makes you really, really, really fast…..you’ve got it. What other cycling workout video anywhere pits you against 3x Tour de France Winner Alberto Contador (and giro winner, and Vuelta winner, and and), puts you in a break with Luis Leon Sanchez or asks you to stay with Andy Schleck when he makes his winning move in the 2009 Liege-Bastogne-Liege?

They have gear now, too. Check it out here.

Pinpoint a Boris Bike Thanks to the London Cycle Hire Status Map

Cycle hire availability across London shown on a cool new site.

Cycle hire availability across London shown on a cool new site.

Thanks to the data released by Transport For London on the locations of the Cycle Scheme docks and bike movements, one clever developer has built this website that gives real-time updates on bicycle availability.

Looking for a bike? Red denotes bike stands that are full. Looking to drop a bike off? Dark blue/purple denotes bike stands that are empty, with the various shades in between indicating degrees of fullness.

The map’s fully scaleable, and there’s a newsfeed ticker, and the blue and red dots are curiously soothing. Mobile phone applications – the logical useful step – may be on their way.

Reports coming in that Cervélo Test Team to End After This Season

Will Thor be riding for Garmin next season?

Will Thor be riding for Garmin next season?

Jean Paul Van Poppel, venerable DS of the Cervélo Test Team, has given a clear indication that the rumors surrounding the Test Team’s demise at the end of the season are true, reports Velonation.

The website takes up Biciclismo.com‘s Spanish-language reporting, which quoted Van Poppel as saying “I cannot deny that it is true. The future will change. For me, it is a question of how [it will happen]. I hope that we don’t stop completely, but at this moment I can say nothing meaningful about it.”

Carlos Sastre had already confirmed his move to the Geox team next season, but the indications are that Cervélo had not tried to offer him – or any of the other riders whose contracts were up – a renegotiated deal for 2011. Biciclismo is reporting that Thor Hushovd, Hienrich Haussler, Roger Hammond and Andreas Klier will move to Garmin-Transitions next year, and that Cervélo will also supply bikes to the team, which is part-owned by David Millar.

Cervélo have scheduled a pre-Vuelta press conference for Saturday morning, where the situation will presumably become clearer. If the news is true, it will see the end of a fascinating experiment, so well documented in their Beyond the Peloton videos – and the close to another chapter in the stuttering history of manufacturer-sponsored teams. The Test Team undoubtedly enhanced the reputation of the innovative bike manufacturer, but it appears the costs of maintaining a UCI ProTour team were simply too high.

The women’s team will stay as a stand-alone entity, it is reported.
