New Cycle Hire Widget For Londoner’s Androids

The Cycle Hire Widget for the Android, developed by Little Fluffy Toys, works exclusively for London’s new bike sharing program. Watch the video above to see the developers showing you how their widget works in real time.

Basically, when you tap on the widget it will show you the 3 nearest cycle hire locations and their status–bikes available and/or slots available to return a bike. The free widget uses crowdsourcing to collect its information–when at a cycle hire location, users are prompted to make a report about bike availability.

Jumping On The 3D Bandwagon: Stereo Bike Co.’s 2011 Catalog

stereobikes3d

Joining Hollywood’s fancy for all things 3D is Stereo Bike Co.’s 2011 catalog of BMX product offerings. The pictures are pretty cool even without the 3D effects–at least the pages aren’t filled with dancers jumping out of the pages doing their coolest head bob. Stereo Bike Co. is a German company and currently distributes in Europe, no distributors in the US yet.

New LeMond Revolution Bike Trainers

LeMond Fitness has introduced their new Revolution Bike Trainer, promising the most authentic road feel ever from a stationary trainer. Using a direct mount design that replaces your rear wheel, it fits standard 135mm rear spacing frame, making it so you can mount either your road or mountain bike…and saving you from wearing through your expensive road tires or making that angry hornet swarm sound when warming up before the cross country race. From LeMond:

The Revolution is a resistance trainer that features High Inertia Technology (HIT) designed with a large, weighted flywheel that emulates the inertia of a rolling bicycle, spins freely when the pedals aren’t engaged, and delivers progressive wind resistance similar to real-world conditions. The design creates a smooth, natural feel while pedaling with no lag when the rider slows down or changes gears, and comes closer to the feel of riding on the road than any other trainer.

Race Your Road Bike on the Historic North Wilkesboro Motor Speedway

PRESS RELEASE: The Exhale Race Weekend will feature two days of USA Cycling sanctioned criterium bicycle racing at the Historic North Wilkesboro Speedway on August 21st and 22nd, 2010. Cyclists from across the nation will have the chance to race on the famed track, which has a growing reputation as one of the most exciting cycling venues in the Southeast. The Exhale Race Weekend will feature 15 races each day with separate categories for beginners, kids, women, masters, and pros, competing for $5,000 in cash prizes.

“Pirate Race Productions is excited to be partnering with the Wilkesboro Tourism Development Authority to give cyclists another great opportunity to come to Wilkes and take their breath away,” says Pirate Race Productions founder Andrew Stackhouse. “Criterium racing is to the Tour de France, as stock car racing is to a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway.” ‘Crits,’ as they are usually called, are fast and furious races, with packs of riders shoulder to shoulder as they tear around the track. Races last from 20 minutes for the beginner categories to 60 minutes for the pros, so you do not need a ton of training to have fun or be competitive.

Often held in town centers, crits are designed to be spectator friendly, and the Historic North Wilkesboro Speedway offers great views of the entire course. Furthermore, cyclists are challenged by its notorious rise on the back stretch, tight turns, and persistent wind, allowing the races to play out like a traditional four-corner city course. Best of all, this event provides a rare opportunity for racers and spectators to lounge in the infield throughout the weekend, and get personal with the track Benny Parsons and Junior Johnson made famous

In the words of Gary Medley, “Wild, wild, wild!”. Gary had the privilege of riding in the Team Liquigas car from Wettingen to Frutigen of the 2010 Tour de Suisse this past June.

In this picture says Gary, “Rainy day forced riders to visit and revisit the team car to exchange gear.  Driving the car is Director Sportif Alberto Volpi, himself a veteran of 3 TdFs during his racing days in the late 1980s-1990s.  (Can’t identify the rider)”
