SEA OTTER CLASSIC 2010 – Camelbak was showing off their new Octane series of ultralight packs.  Made of a lightweight ripstop-like material, they’re made for multisport activities, with the XCT (green) and 18x (orange) being more cycling oriented.

The two smaller ones come with a 70oz bladder, and the Octane 24 (black) comes with a 100oz reservoir.  All have some external storage, with light mesh pockets on the sides of the waist belt, and the 18x is expandable by unzipping the center zip.  Internal storage is wide open without much in the way of organization, but if lightweight is what you’re going for, they could be your ticket.

The Octane 18x comes in this “dark cheddar / graphite” color scheme as well as the black and green shown above.  The shoulder straps on all three models are minimal, but they are ergo-shaped to help stay in place.  MSRP $90, weight is one pound, 18L capacity when fully expanded.

The XCT is very minimal with one small external zip pocket and two mesh zip pockets.  Weight is next to nothing, though, and you get a normally-sized 70oz bladder with it.  MSRP is $70.

The Octane XCT comes in the same three color options as the 18x.

The larger Octane 24 comes in either the black/gray shown or cheddar/graphite, has 27.22L cargo capacity and retails for $100.
