NAHBS – Ruegamer’s 720g Zen Uberlight Road Frame, Only Female Builder Showing
NAHBS 2010 – If that sub-700g Cervelo Project California either isn’t exclusive enough for you or just a little too light, Breanna Ruegamer’s got just the thing for you:Ã‚Â Her 720g (52cm) Zen Uberlight full carbon road frame.
Built by hand, the ZU will set you back $8,000, which makes just slightly cheaper than the Cervelo, but certainly more unique and, unless I missed something (and please correct me if I did), it’s built by the only female frame builder that exhibited at NAHBS this year.Ã‚Â Plus, your bike will be made of military-spec MS-40 high tech carbon, just like spacecraft use.
She also had her Belle Track bike (pink camo, lower left) and Left carbon hardtail mountain bike, plus a Ti/Carbon mixed material road frame.Ã‚Â Oh, and a 1,800g tandem frame.Ã‚Â Check ’em out behind the break…
Bre says she’s made a road frame as light as 550g, but it’s strictly for climbing…that it feels “not right” when descending.Ã‚Â The Zen Uberlight uses pressed in BB30 bearings in an 86mm width for Zipp or KHM cranks, and it comes with an Edge Composites carbon fork.
Her TiCarbon road frame weighs in at about 1,000g and uses a blend of titanium tubes and carbon fiber.Ã‚Â MSRP $3,800.Ã‚Â The ti top- and downtubes are visible under a clearcoat finish within the paint scheme.Ã‚Â The tandem in the background is the 1,800g lightweight.
The Belle Track bike is her personal road bike, featuring some old school Spinergy Rev-X wheels (of which I’m also a proud owner) and a pink urban camo paint job.

She also had her personal mountain bike on display, a very lightweight full carbon hardtail with Cannondale Lefty suspension fork and Edge carbon rimmed wheels.Ã‚Â This model is called the “Gaia” and retails for $4,000 with a regular fork, add $400 for the Lefty edition.

Besides the frames, she’s working on a lightly carbon crankset that will have adjustable crankarm lengths from 150 to 180, which Bre says will be heaven for people with different leg lengths.
