Hubless Concept Road Bike from Bradford Waugh

Right on the heels of the hubless BMX bike concept we found, here’s a similar set up in a road bike by designer Bradford Waugh.  The hubless wheels are driven by geared rollers, but check out the crankset!

Of all these concepts I wanna see them ridden.. I am curious. Does it work?

Man that geared roller is going to spinning like crazy if this bike is going to get any speed. Looks like there are a huge number of teeth on the inside of the rim.

Needs to have some serious gearing between the crank and rear wheel or it won’t go much faster than jogging speed.

What a shame their computer was broken at the time, I would have loved to see the engineering calculations for the potential sideways load on the rollers. I won’t even go near the ludicrous crank arrangement.

I am assuming that the uni student (or am I being too complimentary here) is actually studying arts or history; certainly not engineering.
