Timbuk2 has updated their Classic Messenger with a number of new features, few of which are readily apparent just from glancing at it, but all of which should vastly improve the functionality.
First, and perhaps most exciting to us, is the “Napolean” pocket hidden under the front flap. When we first heard they were adding this, we thought it’d look like Keen’s messenger with the flap pocket on the outside, but are pleasantly surprised by their take on it (which you can see after the break).
Another new feature is a “memory adjust” cam lock strap adjustment the keeps things where you want them, ending the cycle of readjusting them everytime you throw it on. (To be honest, I didn’t think there was anything wrong with their old system, but hey, progress.) They’ve also put a padded internal slash pocket against the back wall for holding files, laptops, etc. firmly in place. Previously, this was only included on their higher end or laptop specific messenger bags.
Other new features include a new velcro layout to make it less likely to catch your sweater and close more evenly even if you’re a lazy closer, new color-coded front pocket zippers and side compression straps to hold things in place when you’ve got a light load.

The new Napolean pocket is just to the right of the sunglasses. It has a zipper to keep things in, but is easily accessed without having to open the bag…a very, very welcome feature. Check the new velcro layout…vertical strips on the bag, horizontal ones on the flap; it’ll catch and stay shut regardless of whether you line things up.
New internal rear divider fits laptops and files and such. Their standard internal organizers remain on the inside.
