How to Make Indoor Trainer Riding Even More Miserable, er, Productive

indoor trainer with gears to improve cycing training

Here’s an interesting device that lets you get your workout on a trainer, but move while doing it–no more staring at the TV while training! The inventor, Richard Lewis, describes it here:

The trainer uses a gear reduction system that allows riders to move at very low ground speeds of less than 5MPH while getting the same training benefit of time trialing at 25-30MPH. Cyclists can still get the intense workout they are looking for, while keeping even pace with a walking or running exercise companion.

He even imagines spinning class participants using this device on an indoor track. While still in the prototype stage, Richard hopes to find a company to purchase his patent for production. Here’s to slowly moving around the track in the near future!

Is this the answer to the question no one is asking! Ha! I want to go nowhere fast!
Damn thing is I would probably end up getting one.

Uglyyeti, that is hilarious!

Wait, wait…so, I lose the inside stability and usefulness of the trainer, as well as the speed and road-feel of actually riding the bike?

Between this and those crazy big-wheeled inline skates from earlier today, I feel like I’m being punk’d.

Also, you know how I keep “even pace with a walking or running exercise companion?”

I make them ride a bike. If you ain’t ridin’, we ain’t exercisin’.
