Electra’s new line of ladies Fashion Cruisers bring a feminine touch to a classic cruiser design.

Color coordinated from front to rear, the bikes feature stylized fenders, grips, chainguards, saddles and frames, all with Electra’s balanced frame geometry that makes them easy and comfortable to ride.  They’re available with Shimano Nexus 3-speed internally geared hubs (which can be shifted without pedaling) or with derailleurs.

Electra is offering four models of the Fashion Cruisers, all of which have Boomerang Hi-Ten steel frames, Shimano Revo twist shifters, coaster brakes, full fenders and an extra large Ding Dong bell.  Shown above is the Peacock, which has cream colored tires on powdercoated aluminum rims w/ stainless spokes and a color-matched seat.  The frame and fenders have a peacock motif, and it’s also available in Chartreuse.

Interbike 2009 – Wilier Imperiale Aero Road Bike

2010 wilier imperiale aerodynamic road bike designed by john cobb bicycles interbike 2009

INTERBIKE 2009Wilier Trestina introduced their new aerodynamic road bike, the 2010 Imperiale, designed to minimize the effects of crosswinds and maximize aerodynamic efficiency.

In the past, Wilier (pronounced vee-lee-air) worked with reknowned aero guru John Cobb (type his name in our search bar and you’ll find some other brands he’s worked with, too) on their Cento Crono and Tri Crono TT bikes, and the Italian brand brought him on board to design the Imperiale’s frame and fork.

Cobb points out that making a bike aerodynamic requires more thought and research than simply ovalizing tubes or attempting to “hide” or integrate components. It’s all about managing airflow,” he explains. “If you try beat or cheat the air, you’ve already lost the battle.”

‘Self’ Magazine Editor Lucy Danziger Bikes To Work

bikerumor lucy danziger self editor commuting by bike to work(Photo by Jennifer S. Altman for the NYTimes… is that a coffee cup in her bottle cage?)

Lucy Danziger, Editor of Self magazine, bikes to work. Pretty cool to see an editor of a fitness magazine “walking the walk” (or biking the bike, so to speak) instead of taking part in the usual perks Condé Nast, located in Midtown Manhattan, offers their editors. No car service for her! Read more about it on The New York Times and Gawker.com–who, by the way, calls her a “Great American” and says that she deserves some sort of prize for riding her bike to work in “treacherous” terrain. While I don’t know how “treacherous” commuting by bike in New York City is, I’m sure she’s not the only one out there braving the streets!

Thanks to our eagle-eyed reader Stephen for having too much time on his hands and alerting us to the freeze-frame face of the Lego cyclist in the bicycle safety PSA video right when he’s about to get nailed by the car.  Sweet.

Streetfilms Video: NYC Bike Lanes Explained

Streetfilms has put together this video to explain the 200+ miles of new bikes lanes that New York City has installed over the past few years.  Over the three years they were put in place, bicycle traffic has increased 45%, and NYC is well on their way to meeting their goal of 1,800 miles of bike lanes by 2030.

The NYC DOT has put in place three different types of lanes depending on the road type and width, including some left-side lanes to help prevent cyclists from getting doored.  Even if you don’t live in NYC, it’s worth watching to see what can be done when you can widen the roads…a perfect lesson for any city.  If NYC can do it, it can be done pretty much anywhere.

Bullet Keychain Presta Valve Adapter Website Up

bullet-keychain-pump-adapter

We found The Bullet Keychain pump adapter floating around the cycling blogosphere a while back, but couldn’t find any info about the creator.  Fortunately, he emailed us, and here’s the deal.  It’s made by Stephen Davis Phillips, and he’s got his website up and running.

The Bullet is a Presta-to-Schrader valve adapter that lets you stop at any gas station or tire shop with an air compressor and top of your tires, and the keychain bit keeps it from getting lost.  It’s machined from solid brass and comes with a matching 1″ keychain.  It’s $7 (includes shipping) and a portion of the proceeds are split between the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and Dollars for Change.

For more pics of The Bullet, check our prior post.

Skean Top Tube Protector – The Real One

skean-top-tube-protector1Apparentely, the first time we posted about these, we showed a prototype, so here’s the real deal: The Skean top tube protector, from Cadaix.  It’s an anti-shock elastomer that loops onto your bicycle’s top tube to protect against frame damage if your handlebar swings all the way around in a wreck.  They’re €12 (about $17.85 US) and come in black and clear.  Photos of them in use after the break…
