Cascade Bicycle Club Bringing Advocacy to Your City…Maybe

If you want some outside help getting your city on the ball, Cascade Bicycle Club is willing to help.  You just have to get your friends to let them know that you want them to come to your town.  Here’s how:

PRESS RELEASE: Cascade will travel to five cities throughout the state this fall to meet with local bicyclists.  We will work together to identify needs for advocacy in local communities for better facilities, as well as federal and state funding opportunities.  Sign up below and tell your friends if you are interested in attending a workshop.  We’ll travel to the five cities in Washington with the most interest.

Workshop topics may include:

  • Effective Earned Media and Letter to the Editor Campaigns
  • Bicycle Master Plans, Complete Streets and Universal Design
  • Crunching the Numbers: Using Counts and Crash Data to Improve Conditions for Bicycling
  • Working With Elected Officials… and Holding Them Accountable
  • Winning Local Campaigns for Bicyclists

If you want to help bring these workshops to your area, please join the host committee.

Host Committee Responsibilities: Choosinging a date and location in your community, inviting local bicyclists and officials, working with Cascade staff to identify local priorities

Deadlines: Workshops will work around this year’s bike and pedestrian counts in September and October.  To host a training to your city, contact organizer@cascadebicycleclub.org by August 31. Workshop dates, agendas and invitations must be ready to email out by September 15.

Bikerumor Review: Zoic Loudan Short and Guru Freeride Jersey

zoic-clothing-review09-cover

I’ve been kickin’ it in the new Zoic Loudan Shorts and Guru Jersey for a few months and really like them.  The Loudan shorts are from their Streetside collection of casual cycling and commuter clothes, while the Guru 3/4 sleeve jersey is from their Mountain Bike collection.  Both are great, and the shirt works just as well for moderate temp riding around town as it does on hot days on the trail.

If you’re looking for some comfy, durable threads, read on.  Both are made with Bamboo, and thus far the jersey has proven to be quite durable against tree wrecks and kept at bay the “perma-funk” that plagues so many synthetic materials.  (there’s a pic of the unscathed Guru and the very scathed skin after the break)

The shorts have some of the best pockets ever for holding stuff securely while pedaling without awkward bouncing or pulling.  After spinning around in them since about May, it’s obvious Zoic knows how to build cycling-specific garb.

NYC Helmet…Cool Commuter Brain Bucket, Perfect for Obama!

nyc_helmet

Designers Yves Béhar, Josh Morenstein, Nick Cronan, Matt Swinton, & Giuseppe Della Salle of fuseproject were commissioned by NYC (hence the logo on all models) to develop a cool urban commuter helmet specifically for city riders.

The result is a very sweet, totally customizable lid that doesn’t look like you’re trying to race to your office.  Users can swap covers to match their outfit or their mood, and in the winter, you’d be hard pressed to tell some of them from hipsters’ raggy head covers anyway.  Because the covers are removable, they can easily be washed, too!

If these take off, no doubt there will be a nice aftermarket for fashionista covers.  Found via Yanko Design by way of DesignCrave.

Found: Bertelli Bici Bicycles

bertellibici4

Found this via NYCbikeblog:

Bertelli Bici (bici is the italian slang for bikes) are unique bicycles that you won’t find in any store in New York City.

Every bici is hand mounted, finished and fine-tuned by me, Francesco. I combine brand new parts, “new old stock” and vintage parts found at flea markets, old bikeshops, collectors and from my trustworthy suppliers. The final result is that you won’t find exactly the same combination in any other bicycle out there. And your bicycle will be unique.

President Obama Puts First Noggin At Risk

225-obamahelmetembeddedprod_affiliate81

Bell/Giro… Could ya please send the President a helmet?

President Obama was photographed riding with his daughter and a friend on Martha’s Vineyard during his weeklong vacation.  At least the kids have brain buckets, but seriously.  With all the deficit he’s racking up, you’d think he could spring for a helmet.  Maybe something with Kevlar?
