Forget Chalkbot, DIY Chalk Trails From Your Bicycle Wheel

Want to leave your mark in a bright, colorful (and non-permanent) way?  The Contrail lets you turn your bicycle into a streamer to leave chalk lines all along your route, encouraging more cyclists to follow in your path.

Developed by Studio Gelardi for the Design21: Power to the Pedal design competition, it fills with chalk powder and leaves a faint line where ever you ride.  The goal, besides just plain being cool and artsy, is to illustrate to drivers and other riders where bikes ride.  The more people that ride with them, the more people realize that cyclists use the roads and the more aware everyone becomes.  Advocacy at its artistic best.

It’s made of recycled materials, and is completely human powered (obviously) Studio Gelardi says it is coming, and you can join their email list on the BikeContrail.com site to keep posted.
