BIKERUMOR.com 2009 SEA OTTER CLASSIC COVERAGE: Vision, a sub-brand from Full Speed Ahead, had four new wheels on display at Sea Otter.  The biggest visual impact came from their massive full carbon TriMax Disc tubular wheel, above.  Intended as a rear wheel only, it uses an flanged alloy hub, sealed cartridge bearings and aluminum cassette body that fits Shimano/SRAM 9-10 speed and Campy 10-11 speed.  1280g w/o skewer.  The wheel comes with SwissStop brake pads and their Mercury carbon QR. MSRP $2000.

Below that is the TriMax Carbon.  It has a 50mm deep section tubular rim with reinforced braking surface mated to a CNC machined hub with Sapim bladed aero spokes.  The 20 front and 24 rear spokes are straight pull, and they use a pretty neat mounting system on the 2-cross side of the rear hub making them easy to replace (click image at left, below, to enlarge).  Set is 1,420g w/o skewers, and includes SwissStop pads, wheel bags, Mercury carbon QR’s and valve extenders. MSRP $1400.

The carbon-lever skewers are 98.5g per set and use a stainless steel shaft and springs and aluminum nut.

The Vision TriMax Ultimate is a handbuilt wheel rolling on deep, 88mm carbon aero rims and ceramic bearings.  The rims and carbon front hub share a “Carbon Marble Stone” finish, giving them a unique look (pic below). The rear hub uses the same CNC’d design as the TriMax Carbon, only with black anodization.  Tubular only, they weigh in at 1730g per set w/o skewers. MSRP $1700.

The TriMax Pro (bottom) uses a 30mm deep alloy clincher rim that can be used as a race or training wheel.  The handbuilt wheelset has a CNC’d braking surface, sealed cartridge bearings and 20F/24R Sapim bladed aero spokes.  Weight is 1520g w/o skewers.  MSRP $650.
