Trek Belt Drive Bikes Just Miss The Holidays

Trek announced that they will produce two belt-driven city bikes for 2009, to be released in January.  We know these would make a perfect gift for that person that likes the idea of riding but just doesn’t want the “hassle” of bike maintenance (Funny, my mom’s bike seems to work just fine between my every-other-year tune ups for her…).

We’ve got your covered.  Here’s a coupon to place under the tree (or where ever you feel appropriate based on your chosen holiday celebration…we’ve got you covered on that, too).  Holiday shopping?  Done.

While Spot and a few others have used the Gates Belt Drive system on bikes, Trek will be the first major manufacturer to mass produce a belt-driven bicycle.

The Trek District is a single speed city bike, MSRP $930, with orange accents and leather seat and grips.

The Trek Soho, MSRP $990, has an internally geared 8-speed hub.

Get more info on the Gates Belt Drive here, and there’s a nice article on CNN.com about this new drivetrain technology, too.
