2009 Trek Top Fuel Revealed

Trek has revamped both their EX and Top Fuel bikes for 2009, with both receiving major carbon frame makeovers and gaining the hyped ABP (Active Brake Pivot) and Full Floater rear suspension.  First, a pic to wet your appetite (I’m already salivating, I mean saving, my pennies).

So, how to make one of the most popular full-suspension racing bikes lighter and stiffer?  Easy:

  • 2×9 FSA Carbon Cranks
  • DT Swiss Carbon Shock
  • Bontrager XXX carbon (yes, carbon) rims
  • All-new SID World Cup fork
  • 431 gram lighter carbon frame w/ no-cut seatmast
  • Integrated BB Shell w/ narrower spacing
  • New, one-piece magnesium rocker arm

Volume’s Rob Wise Edition Drops w/ Serious Machining

Volume Bike’s Rob Wise Signature Edition releases in September with some pretty sick machine work.  Check out the bored out seat tube and Volume’s machined out logo on the headtube.  Guessing this one’s meant entirely for the ramps and streets…dust and dirt would probably gum things up a bit after a few sessions at the track.

Final Push: Support National Park Service Revitalization

I.M.B.A. is urging all mountain bikers to contact their member of congress to support H.R. 3094. This bill would provide much needed financial support for the National Park Service to enhance and maintain our nation’s greatest national treasures. This bill is strongly supported by I.M.B.A. and a coalition of other conservation and recreation organizations. In February, the Bush administration proposed a $230 million budget increase, which will actually give the NPS the money it needs to do its job. For years, the NPS has suffered from flat or declining budget cuts that have basically stripped it of its ability to do its job…and now you can help.  Click here to read the IMBA press release and suggested letter with more details, or click here to give your congress-person an earful.

NYC Mass Cyclist Assaulted for… Assault?

Watch video.  Think to self “this guy’s freakin’ nuts.”  Seriously?  I think somebody could use a bike ride to help them relax a little…especially since it’s apparently OK for CM rides in NYC without any special permitting.

Seattle Critical Mass Gets Ugly

Last week’s monthly mass ride in Seattle ran into a little trouble when riders and a motorist seemed to disagree. Unfortunately, from the article, it’s not clear who’s really to blame, but a couple riders were taken into custody. Another rider’s leg was run over by the car as the driver attempted to “escape” the scene as more and more cyclists surrounded the vehicle, smashing windows and banging it up. Form your own opinion after reading the story here or here.

Charlotte Trail Host to SE MTB Marathon Finals

River’s Edge Mountain Bike Marathon, a 50-mile race, will be held at the US National Whitewater Center on Sept. 7, 2008.  Neal Boyd, founder of Charlotte Sports Cycling, puts on some great events, and this one shouldn’t be any different.  The event is the official Southeast Mountain Bike Marathon Championships and will crown the top 6 men and women riders.  There are also Duo categories with prizes for top 3 teams.  More info, schedule, etc. can be found here.

Pivot Cycles MTB Demo Day

Come out to the US National Whitewater Center on August 23, 2008, to demo the Pivot mountain bikes on the sweet trails there.  Pivot Cycles, started in 2008 by Chris Cocalis (founder and previous owner of Titus Cycles), is not new to bicycles.

A direct quote from Chris: “For me, Pivot Cycles is the result of 20 years building some of the highest quality, best performing full suspension bikes in the world. Pivot builds on my reputation for designing and manufacturing suspension bikes that feature great feel throughout the suspension travel, and have excellent pedaling performance, with unparalleled frame stiffness and durability.  We’ve taken this winning combination to a new level with innovative new technology that gives you more of what you love about full suspension mountain bikes, and less of what you don’t!”  The demo is hosted by Southpark Cycles in Charlotte, NC.

Rock Hill, SC, Velodrome Project Needs You!

The Carolina Velodrome Association has worked for six years to get community and city/county council on board for a proposed 250m concrete Velodrome, which would be the largest (only?) velodrome in the Southeast US.  The developer has donated the land, which would be in the center of a mixed use development, and the CVA has raised $500,000 and has USA Cycling supporting it.

Want to see this happen?  Email the people on this list before the end of July.  Here’s a sample letter you can use.
