Bionicon chose to launch the update as a stealth limited edition build with a bunch of top-of-the-line, but understated components.

Bionicon Adds New Raw Finish Edison EVO, and more

Bionicon_Edison_EVO_enduro_27-5inch_650b_mountain_bike_raw_aluminum_frame_finish_NBS_on-snow

As spring nears and we are dreaming of snow melting from trails we just got word from Bionicon that they are now delivering the new 2015 Edison EVO, which we tested last fall, to the first customers. In a pleasant update of giving consumers what they want, Bionicon tells us that they were getting some feedback that the neon orange and yellow paint schemes were too loud and so made a running decision to offer a low-key Raw frameset as an option. The raw frames are sanded and clear coated to protect the frames and get very minimal branding. If you are interested in a less more subdued finish, the Raw bikes will be available with the next production batch in May.

Bioinicon also announced a new lower cost option for buyers making advanced purchases, and some new suspension options. Hop past the break for more details and a couple more pics…

Weekend Test and Company Tour: Bionicon Edison EVO Enduro Claws Its Way Up and Bombs Downhill

Bionicon_Edison_EVO_enduro_27-5inch_650b_mountain_bike_orange_on-trail_descend-mode

Early this fall we took some time out to head to Bionicon’s home base in the south of Germany on the Tegernsee, a lake where Bavaria backs up into the mountains, to try out their newest Enduro bike on the terrain it was designed for. Our visit also gave us a chance to spend some time on and off the bike with the passionate engineers who developed their uniquely linked front and rear air suspension systems. They showed us around on the trails and in their headquarters where all of their bikes and suspensions systems are designed and assembled. Plus, we got a bit of the story of the development of their bikes and where they were focusing next.

Follow me past the jump for a look inside the company and hands-on with the tech, as well as some of our impressions and pictures from riding both their 26″ and 27.5″ Edison EVO enduro bikes up some of the steepest gravel roads passable and down some of the steepest and most technical singletrack we’ve ever pedaled to the top of…

If you’re tuned into the gravity side of mountain biking, then Dave Watson will need no introduction. A fixture on the North Shore since the beginning of Freeride, Dave has achieved entrepreneurial success in channeling his lifestyle into his clothing company, Sombrio. At one point or another, Sombrio gear has been seen on most of the big names of freeride, and now the company is making a push into the All Mountain and Enduro world of mountain bike technical apparel.

We sat down to chat with Dave about what’s new with Sombrio, his history, and jumps over the Tour de France.

Read it all, after the break.

New Snafu Pedals to Please BMX and Freeride Mountain Bike Weight Weenies

Snafu-Anorexic-Pedals

BMX and freeride MTB riders should peep the new Snafu Anorexic pedals, now available from US distributors Sidewall, or so this press release says.

As their somewhat unfortunate name suggests, the Anorexics’ precise CNC machining has removed all unneccesary material so that the 6061-T6 alloy pedals weigh only 178g (6.25 oz) each. A lightweight spindle with needle bearings adds to the performance aspect of these 100mm-wide pedals.

Between you and me, I’ve always thought that even the skinniest grimpeur (or rider of any sort) could afford to lose from their waist the pounds or ounces that represent the difference between super-lightweight and ‘normal’ high-end components… then again, that doesn’t stop me from wanting the light bits! I like shiny stuff as much as the next man: these pedals look pretty boss to me.
